Bolt down the base plates to play it safe and I think your covered then. That is your most critical area where you were underpowered.

If they're really weldable hooks, they are forgings, and will have no problem being hit with a hammer.

What if beating on the hook causes a hairline fracture or under bead crack in the weld you can't see?

How does a hammer blow determine how much it will lift, one blow is good for 500 lbs., so two is good for 1000 lbs.?

For general around the farm lifting I've even made my own hooks out of 3/8 steel plate, for most small tractors power if lifting it's not a issue in my opinion, if it was a crane or construction equipment that would be a total different ballgame and would never even begin with a 140 amp machine
