Mini Modification

Things being a little slow, I will ask another question. What small and simple modification have you made that has made a big difference in your satisfaction with your PT. For me it was the auxiliary hydraulic modification. Or was it the parking brake improvement. I actually use the brake now. Bot have added a lot of value.

As simple as it was, my parking break mod for sure. I now use mine with ease, so I now use it more. My light modification to brighter halogens, placed at the top of the ROP’s angled down ward. Another one is my cab. I leave it on year round now. I just take out the foot panels and windows for extra ventilation and yes it is ugly, but so useful. It has been great for all sorts of things. Arm rest, cup holder, key holder, place to mount many things including my Walkie Talkie for talking to the wife inside. When’s dinner? Come out here for a minute, and so on.

Several times I had been in the middle of a project, and a thunder storm would come out of nowhere. Was nice to have the option of staying out there, and staying dry, not to mention in the dead of winter with panels and windows back on nice and warm. My little attachment collection is starting to take shape, and is adding greatly to the PT’s capabilities. I have plans to add many more. When I first got it the wife asked why would you need that thing? Now that’s changed to, can you take the PT and do this for me.

1) Dropping the rops down 2 inches so the machine will fit in the garage. Local welding shop did the work.
2) Adding a rubber strip of horse matting to the blade for plowing snow.
3) Changing the cheapo fuse holder with a standard type so the engine doesn't cut out at the most inopertune times.
4) Sliding the plate arm assembly back on the brush cutter to provide more clearance between machine and cutter so tires stop getting destroyed. Which leads to .....
5) Adding Gemplers bullit proof grade gunk to the tires. I've got slices three inches long clear thru the bars and I don't lose any air pressure at all. Unbelievable how well this stuff works. Not cheap by any means but cheaper than the cost of new tires.

Could you provide a little more information about this mod? What fuse holder did you replace and what brand/model did you use to replace it? Where did you get the replacement?

Jack, I must have missed that thread. I have been trying to think of a way to move the brush hog deck forward so I can raise the rear with out it rubbing on the front tires of the tractor. After reading your post it seems quite obvious how to do it. how far back did you move it and did you add weight to the rear of deck to rebalance it some? Reg.

1.. a flipdown sheet of clear lexan from the rops to prevent debris hitting me when using the rototiller,stump grinder etc.

2. A cut up piece of tarp that's velcroed under the lifting arm to prevent debris from hitting the hydraulic hoses and other parts

It was the main 20 amp fuse holder right by the engine. Yellow wire if I remember. The factory one is a squeeze on type that relies on puncturing the wire with a metal point for contact. Problem is if the wire is off center a little or vibration from the machine loosens it a little bit then everything goes dead. My experience was that usually occured when furthest from the house, at night or when it started to rain. Also liked to occur when the location of a dead machine would block the most amount of traffic!

I got a standard fuseholder from a local auto store for a couple of dollars. It's a pig tail type so you splice it into the yellow wire. I used compression fittings the kind you close up with pliers. Haven't had any trouble with shut downs since.
