Here is what a clogged up fan looks like.
What happened in this case is someone was visiting, staying in the guest house, they adjusted the system to extreme settings. We've had our mini-split system for 6 years now. We've had it happen 3 times in those years where a visitor has caused this to happen, despite our warnings. That's a nasty looking fan!
Seems like you have a humidity scale or growth occurring on the fan - are these running all the time to condition the space, or "as needed when it gets to warm/humid?
The units would have to be moved to drill the concrete. I should have done this before they were installed. Our Mitsubishi are Hyper Heat 2 9K and 1 12K and drain onto the ground below, a crushed stone border around the house - it does make an ice cake 2" high but no issue. We don't have the heated pan version and never had a problem with the tray freezing or blocking.
What about drilling thru the concrete walk like a 4" opening below each unit and adding crushed stone instead of a heated line?
Oh that's a good reason - ours are 2'+ off the ground to stay out of the snow.
Set the temperature and take the remote before guests arrive. Two ways I've seen it happen. Someone sets the AC to the lowest temp setting possible. The unit never shuts off, and the coils and fan never get a chance to dry/drain during cooling cycles as normal. Second condition is they set the fan to high and turn the temp up and leave.
Might be easier to keep the remote and get rid of the guestsSet the temperature and take the remote before guests arrive. Problem solved.
My splits have Wi-Fi connection so I can monitor and set temperatures remotely.
Great find, just ordered two of them to test out.![]()
Cielo Breez Plus
Make any ductless air conditioner smart with Cielo Breez Plus. Offers next-gen features including scheduling, geofencing, air filter status & more.www.cielowigle.com
I found this to be the solution to the infrared controller that Lennox supplied with my one ton mini. It will control temp within a degree while it was plus or minus several degrees with the infrared. Nice to be able to control via smartphone when you're relaxing and need to adjust the temp just a tad.
This unit heats/cools a sunroom where the temp can vary quickly depending on where the sun is at a given point in time.
There were a couple issues when controlling the Lennox with the Cielo for which I called their tech support. Their support is awesome in spite of the language accent.Great find, just ordered two of them to test out.
I got two of these from Amazon. They hooked up in minutes and finally a much needed solution to my mini splits.![]()

What brand of mini splits are you running?I got two of these from Amazon. They hooked up in minutes and finally a much needed solution to my mini splits.
What I really like:
- I can control my units now remotely
- They can run on schedules (really nice for my guest house and office). I have day, night and weekend schedules programmed
- They have a mode where you can lock mins/maxes so guests can set it outside of the range
- Integrates with Alexa
- Shows you what the indoor temp and humidity levels are.
