Mini Turbo

Here are a few pictures of the Turbo charger on the mower engine. It's goofy looking if you ask me, but it's still kind of cool.

Interesting.

A guy on another forum had something similar. Said it didnt add any power, but it sure sounded cool:cool:

And you've never driven the turbo'd Craftsman? I'd have made it top priority...... just out of curiousity ! :)

I'm pretty curious, but I've never driven a turbo'd anything. I got the impression from the guy that I bought it from that it may be a process to get it started and running. I'm trying to find a time when I can spend some time playing with it.

Thanks for all of the input. After much consideration, i have decided not to put a turbo on my lawn mower, but if i ever come across one and the price is right, i may change my mind. for the time being, i am going to continue to fabricate my 1976 wheel horse into a garden tractor that looks like an international 1086. thanks again.

Probably smart. But, I am eager to follow the progress of your International 1086.

i fabricated the three point and made it go up and down this past weekend. i still have some tweaking to do on it as the arms only go up and down five inches so i will have to try a few different things to get it to work right. i will try to get some pictures of it. it is really starting to come together. cant wait to get it done.:D

How about a supercharger?; back in the 70's some go-cart racers experimented with automotive smog pumps. With the right pulley ratios they were said to actually worke ok.

I do recall people using the old smog pumps. These are the ones used on chevy V-8's back in the 80's.

I used a turbo from a Yamaha Seca on my little Yanmar YM1100 tractor. The turbo is small enough to fit on my hand. Yes, it requires a pressure lube and return line. I used a -3 supply line and a -4 return. The return line turned out be too small and I was blowing oil out the exhaust. I increased the return line to a -6 and all is well. Well, almost. It turns out the oil capacity is so small on my engine that the turbo was cooking the oil. I only had about 30 minutes of run time until the oil broke down and I started to loose pressure. At first I tried a trans cooler, then I added some fans to the cooler. Help, but wasn't good enough. I then stepped up and bought a large oil cooler and electric fan. That finally did the trick.
