One of commenters on CNN's story said (yes, I get all my straight info from internet comments :laughing
that with the transponder off, there are large areas around the world where radar tracking is not present. If that is true, then this could be coincidence, or that particular flight could have been targeted knowing it would be easy to drop off radar coverage.
It sounds like the engine to satellite pings don't contain specific location information, but maybe that could be triangulated like GPS, the ping must have a time stamp?
