MMM on soft ground

Hello everybody.

I did some grass cutting yesterday - with 60" MMM - and it was fine except in areas where the ground was softer due to rain on Saturday the deck wheels made bit of a mess.

We are in Virginia and the land with pond and creek and a lot of clay can keep water for a long time. The only thing I thought of was to keep the deck little bit higher with the 3 point, but I did not try it yet that way. Is it doable at all?

Any other suggestions?

Can you raise the wheels up to a higher position, like the 2 inch position and then set the deck to 3 inches? Then the wheels will only hit the ground if you roll over a big berm. You might get some scalping depending on your yard.

Raise your deck wheels OR adjust your deck a little higher...no big deal.

Is your deck a suspended or ground contact type?

My guess is that it is a ground contact type, that rides on the ground, regardless of what the height setting is. As compared to the suspended decks on the smaller BX series tractors (Kubota).

If so, adjusting the height of the cut would make no difference (at least in my mind) as the wheels would still be running on the ground all the time.

Maybe you just need to wait for the ground to dry out a bit. Not the answer you want to hear, I know...

This deck rides on the ground, but I was able to adjust the 3 point to hold the deck right above the ground - and it works just fine.

For our land to be completely dry it takes serious drout - we are still wet even Virginia is short on rain this year.

I have a MMM on my JD355. When it is wet I raise the deck before making sharp turns. That keeps me from tearing up grass.
