AH, HA - I have NO moles. I'm "blessed" with a yard overrun by pocket gophers. My big front lawn looks like the target ground for the Armies Third Light Infantry.

This spring I have to get something like Spike56 links too. They have had the run of the yard long enough.

I have moles and the ONLY thing I found that works is outdoor cats. Also mulching the leaves so that the mole tunnels can easily been seen by the cats.

I've had outdoor cat too. They do GREAT on mice and OK on pocket gophers. Very hard to train the cats to stay in close at night. Going outside the influence of the yard light - at night - sure death. It's not so much the hawks during the day as the owls and coyotes at night.

I have outdoor cats, and none have the slightest interest in moles, in fact I've never had a cat that would catch a mole. I have no idea why, they're all pretty good mousers. My yard is pretty open so leaves on the ground aren't an issue.
There have been years where the yard was nothing but mole tunnels when the snow melted, other years very few. I've read that they love Japanese beetle larvae.
Not sure what pocket gophers are, nothing we have here.

I didn't have any moles in Maine, but we are infested with them here in VA. We used a trap like this one when we lived in CT, looking for something like it to use now.

I prefer the Victor Out O' Sight mole traps. However, I've read in recent years that they backed off the spring pressure and are not as effective anymore. I have 5-6 old ones that I keep around. They'll smash your fingers, that's for sure. But they rarely miss.

As I've mentioned in the past in other threads, I stopped counting at 300 (yes, three hundred) moles on 1 acre. It was over 50 per year for over 6 years. Then they finally stopped. I see maybe a handful a year now.

We have a similiar problem here with our cats.
Owls must think that cats taste like chicken. The Owls take turns with the coyotes for after dark predation of the cats that people unwittingly drop off.

You only feed your cats just enough so that they want to hunt to eat.

Our German Shepherd kills at least 6 per year it seems. There's always one laying in the yard somewhere. They must not taste very good because neither dog will eat them.

Yep. A mama cat with kittens is best because she will hunt for the kittens and teach them to hunt. Mine cleared out a 3 ac. yard in about 2 months.

My FLIR camera shows the tunnel locations and the occupants, too. I like to aerate my lawn with slugs or .38 shot shells.

A Castor oil plant will keep them away.They hate the chemicals/smells in it.
