With no loader to lift and carry:

Three point pallet forks. Store lots of your stuff on pallets. They can be used for lifting and carrying. A easy-operating top link or a hydraulic top link is needed with it.

A boom pole.

Yeah, pallet forks are nice. Hydraulic top link isn't completely necessary, I use chain as a top link on mine, just make sure the vertical distance between the top link mount on the forks is more than the distance between the lower link and top link mount on the tractor and the forks will naturally tilt back some when lifted, doesn't help for setting the pallets on stuff, but just for moving it around it works great.

A carry-all is another fairly inexpensive ‘implement’. You can find basic frames at your choice of farm stores and just add a floor, and back or include sides if it fits your needs.
This along with a dirt scoop and boom pole are often forgotten implements with the popularity of FEL’s. All 3 can usually be found used, although price new so you can figure the travel cost/time against purchase price.

Get an FEL and you will eliminate many other things and your back will be so glad you did. It was the first attachment I bought for my tractor and it is by far the most used - if for nothing else to carry tolls to the worksite.

That seems extremely cost prohibitive to add to a tractor that doesn't have one.

Most useful: FEL, bush hog, shredder/chipper. Also have a back blade for snow removal and carryall; don't use these much.

The most useful implement for him will probably not be the same as for someone else. All depends on what his needs are. True I would not take anything for my FEL but the size of his property and planned usage may not warrant the purchase price when a dirt scoop or boom pole will suffice. I have found there are a LOT of attachments/implements I thought I wanted but after careful consideration figured out it would be money not well spent as in the end I would have very little need for the item.

I suggest he decide what will be the task the tractor will be most used for and get first the implement that will make that task easier and add to his fleet of implements as the need arises. They make them everyday so it is not like he cannot get whatever he needs when he needs it.

I know the value of a front end loader, but it seems it would be a minimum of $4000 to add one to this tractor. As I learn more about exactly what it will take, I'll definitely keep my eye out for one that is used.

I think I can accomplish what I'll need to do just fine with 3ph implements. If I was in the market to purchase a tractor I'd look at ones with a FEL, but it's hard to pass up a free tractor. Couple that with the fact that I don't NEED a tractor, I'd just like to have one around to keep me from doing so much work by hand. (For example, I prepped my entire yard for sod with a small cultivator, shovels and rakes, and dug a 120' trench for a water line all by hand.)

I know how useful the FEL is and yes it would be nice to have. I've also seen how hard this place tries to push one on everybody. With all due respect I understand, but I'm curious right now specifically about which 3 ph implements you guys find to be the most useful.

We moved in in March. We still have to build a carport, shed for the camper, and expand a small building here so I have space for a workshop. To balance the money tree, we won't be able to fund anything like a front end loader for another year or 3 until these other items are checked off the list. I'd prefer not wait that long to get use from the tractor
