Movin South... Silly yankee questions...

Geeze around here in the early 1900's if you didn't speak Polish it was hard to get a good job. Its not any different than the past, just different languages now. Then, English, Polish, Hungarian, Belgian. Today, English, Spanish. Learn, adapt or be left bitterly behind. ;)
But all of the those groups KNEW that in the end the path to success in this country was to learn the language and to assimilate. Not give up you heritage, but become part of the melting pot. Many of those families still speak their native tongue in their homes or with friends, but they don't expect everyone to cater to them in their native language when they are out of their communities. Today many of our immigrants that come in have no desire to ever learn the language or customs of this country. We are no longer a "melting pot" where each group that comes in adds a little spice to the mix. Today we are becoming the Balkans where each group wants to maintain their cultural identity unchanged and separate instead of mixing in the pot.

Maybe let's not go down this road? I like this thread and don't want to see it closed.

I just want to know which side he's going to fight for when he comes down south.. Is he going to be a yankee spy ,or is he going to fight for the confederacy ??

You do understand that some of us southerners are still fighting that dang civil war ? I'll be glad when that war ends !

I have a feeling if you are from Boston and a Red Sox fan, being called a Yankee might just be the worst insult that could be uttered.

After watching how bad the "liberal" states have gotten, I'm whistling Dixie all way down... I've been to Virginia many times, love it there.
Thousands of upstate NYers are leaving each year, and the state government only concerns itself with NYC voters. If you drive around upstate, it looks like the great depression. Last time I went through Schoon Lake only a couple of businesses were still open.

We Northerners are at a distinct disadvantage as we have all been bamboozled by Common Core education and taught that the Civil War ended a few years ago. Now it turns out that isn't the case and when we travel down South in our civvies we can be considered spies caught out of uniform. Dang.
