Moving shipping containers

   / Moving shipping containers #31
Old thread, but I recently moved my 40' container once by dragging on round fence posts... It was ok for a straight drag on smooth ground.
I then needed it moved another 100' and turned 90 degrees against a building. For that move I bit the bullet and bought a set of wheels made for moving shipping containers. What a difference! One man job, took about an hour from start to finish.

Lots of nice ways to get wheels on the corners of them now.

I’ve actually helped move a 20’ shipping container before, and even with decent equipment, it was way heavier than I expected. My buddy tried dragging it straight across a gravel yard and it definitely put up a fight, plus you gotta be careful not to twist the frame and mess up the doors. What worked best for us was using some round fence posts as rollers; once you get it balanced on those, it slides a lot easier and doesn’t gouge into the ground. If you’re thinking about getting help from pros or just want to make sure it all goes smoothly, you might want to check out options like ThreeMovers. They connect you with trusted moving companies, and it can save you a lot of time when dealing with these bulky things.
