IS Ferris the only one offering this good suspension I'm reading about here? what about Imark, JD or others.
Ferris holds the patent.
They are excellent mowers if you have back issues.
A couple of days ago I paid attention to the speedometer on my L47 as I crossed my pasture/now lawn.
At six mph I was bouncing pretty bad. I mow that field at almost twice that speed on my Ferris.

I have a Simplicity Citation XT with the full suspension and that was the required purchase after my first ZTR was not and I was bouncing all over the place on it.

Confused. One person says ferris holds the patent, others say their brand has full suspension as well; so which is it?

Ferris held the patent.
Now (since 1999) Ferris is owned by Simplicity outdoors which is owned by Briggs and Stratton.

That's how Simplicity got the right to use the suspension.

Ok. Is simplicity equal to ferris in quality?

Simplicity has ceased to sell equipment. That leaves Ferris and a rebranded one as Stihl.

My two have been good. The cheaper one I bought originally was a homeowner branded version sold at the dealers. It did have a crossbar break at the mount. I had it repaired and it broke again. I took it to a welder and he fixed it up with reinforcing and hasn't broken since. Simplicity used very good drive motors in them that were higher quality. My two ZTR's have a ZT2800 trans in one and a ZT3400 in the other bigger one. Both use spin on filters and I change the oil in them regularly myself in December after the cutting seasons are over. Not a easy job as access to the vent hole is a PIA with linkage in the way. I do it anyway lol. Fresh oil in them is a good idea I've found as they are a lot smoother in operation when it's changed with fresh synthetic oil in there.

There are others of course and most like the one they have. Just stay clear of big box stores, buy commericial, and U should be good for a long time.

Sorta like saying, “I bought cow meat, it was tough.” Was it filet or chuck?

Which model? Husqvarna makes 3 grades, vastly different over the range.

I own pro saws in both brands, and have for many years. I also prefer Stihl, but in terms of pure performance power/weight ratio, the pro Husqvarnas more often take the ribbon. Both make good saws, and both make cheap saws.

I have an old remington lol its heavy

Yeah, I had one of those, as well as an old Homelite. Ironically named, but they were great for the time.

The older saws were generally sprocketed smaller, giving more torque for similar displacement, but slower cutting speed.

I'm just gonna put this out there...unless you have rows of trees or obstructions what is the craze for "zero turn mowers". You have 2 acres...you will drive a straight line, make a 180 and do it again, and again and again. Is it necessary to make THAT turn with a zero turn pivot? Again if you have 57 trees to pivot around I get it, otherwise I'm sitting back and relaxing for the straight line journey.

Well, I mow with a JD rider and have for years. The Ferris or something simular sort of has my interest due the softer ride as my field is rough and my back really takes a beating now at my age..Price of course is over the top just for some added springs. I might just hire it done too as I can pay some younger guy for many years for the cost of the Ferris.

Sounds like someone that has never used one.

Even just mowing in a straight line....their comfort and cut quality is superior. And they can mow at a faster ground speed and still get a good cut quality.

Even on a wide open yard....a commercial grade ZTR will cut your mowing time in half vs a rider even of the same deck width.....

I can do about 4 mph across my lawn on my tractor. Much more than that, and I'm bouncing around so hard that I feel like I'm going to break something. But I do 11 mph on my zero turn, excepting a few areas (eg. culverts, driveway crossings). It also accelerates from 0 - 11 mph, and back down to zero for any required obstacles, in the blink of an eye.

It takes me under 2 hours to mow my 4 acres of lawn with the 60" zero turn. I tried the same once with a 72" belly mower on my tractor, and it took me more than 50% longer. I don't have any obscene number of tree roundings, but I do have a house, barn, and a few dozen trees to get around.

And beyond that, I can damn near do a ballet on the zero turn, whereas the tractor is just slow and cumbersome, getting into every corner, etc.
