Must remove the hitch?

/ Must remove the hitch? #111
How is it different than a mirror? How is it different than if I slip on ice and my head hits your bumper? If someone wants to find a lawsuit they will. I don't care how prepared you are. I am not going to change my lifestyle and be consumed with it. If it is legal for my hitch to be in then it is in.

i agree. wet pavement and whoopps.. fall into a vehicle... i'm sorry ti happens. but it's not something to sue about. I've slipped in water in a parking lot. guess I should have sued the lot owner for not having a water removal system or water shade.

... missed my chance i guess...

Good point about parking in the far end of the lot. Good exercise and less chance of a clown opening their door into your vehicle or rolling a shopping cart into it. Even though the shopping cart pen is probably only 3 feet away.

I too tend to park back away from all the "action". (where it's safe)

When im towing my CRV with my motorhome and traveling in the right lane on highways, it's happened more than once that a merging car will have to slam the breaks on because they didn't see my tow vehicle. Hope it doesn't happen but it will be their fault.

i've had someone merge into my deckover gooseneck trailer behind my truck. and it has red/white dot table all down the sides and marker lamps... go figure...

It is almost like people trade common sense for states of obliviation when they are sleeping.

UPDATE!

New company wide email today!

First they apologized for implying that the referenced IL statue was state law when it wasn't (as quickly pointed out by people here) But they went on to reiterate that regardless of state law, we should be safe so ... ya .... that.... (i just summed up another 3" long paragraph in the email with that)

To which most of the reaction should be eye rolling "what happened to common sense" sort of thing. Like Is it my job to watch were I'm walking or is it the worlds problem to provide me with a perfectly safe place to walk.

These sort of philosophical questions seem to have a straight forward answer untill you get lawyers and insurance people involved.

That's what you think. My wife use to work at Walmart. The worst place to park was in the back. The parking lot was sloped to the back. As the carts that didn't make it to the corral start to roll they pick up speed. She said there was some large dents to vehicles of people that wanted to protect their vehicles from lazy and stupid people. Said the closer you park the less likely major damage would be done by run away carts.

i don't think out rot is sloped at all. carts pretty much statically stay. cart damage is from rude people slamming them into your vehicle!

There should NOT be a law to force you to remove it, what's next, all towing mirrors MUST be folded in every time you park or cover them in red? For that matter since a flatbed trailer is below a moron's line of sight, maybe those ought to always be painted in red with flashing blue lights to alert stupid people that there is something to make note of. Truth known, the genius employee was probably looking at his cell phone when he ran into it in the first place.

That LAST thing we need is another stupid law, for stupid people to feel "protected" by the government.

Those are the same kind of people that if you set cones out to make them walk around a truck with objects sticking out the back, will trip over the cones. They're kinda like a squirrel that is running across a road, is 2 feet from the edge he is running towards, and when he sees a car, turns to run the other way and gets killed. Only then to have some animal lover get after the driver for not swerving to avoid the squirrel.

With the "law " entering into decision whether to remove the hitch or not.
Next will be the Goose neck hitch removed to keep the thieves from stumbling when in pick up bed to empty the tool box.
