As I have stated more times than I can count ..If it's on your property..I could care less. It's the people who are too lazy to remove the rotted drawbars that are never used..These goofs are among the rest of us...This is hysterical

Usually hitch gets hit because they are taking inventory on what's in your truck bed.
This is for:
A. Being nosy
B. Looking to steal
C. Making sure you have an adequate amount of things in your bed to justify owning a diesel pickup so they can judge you.

-So it looks like your a C.

I never looked it up on the legal information of hauling in vehicle But isn't it legal to haul 10 ' length material in bed of pick-up if a flag is attached to rear anything over length. Do it all the time .
and lumber yard provides a red flag and usually nails it on for you.
And if the tail gate is down it is hard to hit the tow hitch.

Put the red flag on the hitch. Problem solved. ;-)

Went to get my truck inspected yesterday and apparently its the "law" here in Nova Scotia to pull the hitch!

Guy doing the inspection said that its a $2xx.00 fine

Came home and looked online but could not find a specific MV statute about unused hitches but there is a section under MV inspections and protruding devices like hitches. So its likely not the police who will fine you, but DOT Compliance. I cant see it applying to consumer vehicles unless you did something really stupid and DOT really wanted to have a talk to you, but commercial guys could very well be hit by this.

Trailer Hitches - Gone Hunting - Nova Scotia Hunting

Same in Ontario. You also have to fold in your trailer mirrors when not towing. They can't be more than 12" from the door.

How on earth do you guys keep track of all the petty laws up there? :)

Basically you don't. Keep your equipment in good clean shape and don't drive anything anywhere during the spring and fall enforcement blitzes.

Recently I had a question for the USDOT, as I was supposed to haul some equipment down to Tulsa. So I phoned three different regional offices along the route, and then the Federal Head office in NY... Got three ambiguous answers and the head office couldn't answer my question period....

Gee, evidently, they can't keep up with them as well.

Nothing mentioned about hitches in that link and your post alluded that laws were same as Nova Scotia about hitches (and thread is about hitches)
