It has nothing to do with using common sense. If the trailer is overloaded, it's not safe whether you use it a lot, or a little, or the trips are short (whatever that means). You can do everything as safe as possible, but that doesn't mean the other idiots on the road will do the same. An MX5100 with just the FEL and bucket would easily max out a 7K trailer....load the tires, or add an implement, and you're well over max gross weight. Hey, but don't worry, if some idiot cuts you off, and causes an accident that results in injury or death, it's not like they'll figure out you were over weight when they do the accident investigation, and your insurance company will refuse to cover you because you were illegally operating the vehicle, or anything. No, that could never happen in today's litigious society....never.

The OP said his property is only 11 miles away I would suggest driving the tractor instead over loaded the trailer. 11 miles is a breeze on a tractor if it has a decent road speed.
