Hello does anyone have either? I have a 4320 and due to a very nice XMas bonus my wife is agreeing to the purchase of a rotary cutter. The literature for the cutters say the MX7 requires 50 PTO HP. The MX6 needs only 30 PTO HP. My 4320 is 48 engine HP. The DEALER says the MX7 would be the ticket, but I noticed in the BROCHURE that an MX7 is for a CAT2 3PT and the MX6 is Cat1 but can be converted to CAT2. Mt tractor is CAT1. Is there a conversion kit to take a 3PT from CAT1 to CAT2? Is the MX7 just too big? Which way should I go? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I'm curious as to what price you've been quoted. I'm looking at either an MX7 or an MX8. I got a quote from my local JD dealer of $2995 for a new MX7. What price did you get? I do see where JD recommends the MX6 max for your tractor. However, I've run a 6' super heavy duty bush hog behind a Kubota 5030 in some of the heaviest stuff and it doesn't bog it down any. I wouldn't hesitate to pull a 7' rotary cutter behind it. I'm looking for a larger rotary cutter for a JD 5425 I have and can't decide between the MX7 or the MX8.

I was quoted $3350 for an MX7 from a dealer that I positively will not buy from. Iv'e also gotten a quote for $2,990 from another dealer. I am more leaning toward the MX6 now. It is $1000 cheaper. I may want to do an MX6 and an auger vs. an MX7 alone.

To me, an MX-7 seems an awfully large cutter for that machine. I would go with the MX-6 as it is cheaper, more manuverable and seemingly to me, would cut similarly fast (although not AS fast).

Your 4320 is only CAT 1. The MX7 is CAT2. I don't believe you can got up but you can go down. You can put a CAT 1 item on a Cat 2 but not the other way around. I notice on the MX-6 they make a CAt 1 and CAT 2 model.

I have a 4720 with a MX6 and love it. More is better, but one thing to consider most trailers have a hard time hauling a 7' mower.

I join jcmseven in thinking the MX7 might be a little too much mower for your tractor. Especially if you have steep slopes. I have a 4610 (44 net HP) with E-Hydro and find the MX6 to be all I can pull mowing 20+ hilly acres of thick and tall grass/weeds. The acreage was once rain-forest. Now it's rain-pasture!

Cheers, Mark

Thanks for the thoughts. I am definately going with the MX6. Good point about the trailer. My trailer is 6X12. The best price I've found for an MX6 is $2150. List is $2390. I was hoping to be around $2030. Am I correct in assuming a 15% discount is reasonable?

You won't be disappointed with the MX-6.

Now - you need to make sure if comes with all the "standard" stuff. I went for low price on mine and it didn't come with the rear chains. I had to add them later and it jumped the price up some.

So - confirm that the safety chains come front and rear and the slip clutch.

ddivinia is correct. I paid $2150 for my MX6 this summer (pulled behind my 4600) and I made sure they included the chains, guards, slip clutch, etc. My dealer was pretty aggressive and this price was a bit below what others were charging locally - so I made sure I asked that everything was included before I bought it.

The MX6 has been everything I thought it would be and then some. It really mashes the pasture well and cuts everything that I've nailed with it. It should be plenty for your use and a better match for your tractor.

I bought a MX6 mower this summer and am totally satisfied with it. I had it on a 65 hp Case 830 tractor. I can take down weeds as tall as the tractor, which is in the 5 to 6 foot range. I could have gotten a better price but I traded in a rusted out JD 709 that I wanted to get rid of so I took a little hit on what I could have got for a cash price. I was mowing with the old one, hit a clump and broke the pto shaft as the slip clutch was froze up. I headed directly to the dealership (which is about 12 miles away). By the time I got there, the thing was so rusted, the 3 point hitch was giving away and I was almost dragging the thing. I pulled up and said "I need a new one". They hooked me up and the way I went. I paid $2000 difference. They claimed to give me $300 for the old one but to me it was worth no more than the price of scrap. The 709 was old when I got it, I keep the new MX6 in the shed and will take care of this one. I also have a JD 3320 compact tractor which I use with the MX6 and it does a good job (as long as I stay out of the really tall stuff). The 709 I traded in was a 7 foot mower and I thought I would miss it but that extra foot of width actually was a hindrence as I look back because I can do ditches better now, it is more manouverable and lighter. I vote for the MX6.

My MX6 has 50hp on it (5205) and it's an awesome monster. I've cut pastures that haven't been cut in at least five years or more. Around here, that's big thick secondary growth.
