No doubt a softer shear pin would lessen the chance of damage to the tractor drive train, but with mine the shear pin was the shear pin as rated from the manufacturer. The engine stalling usually wasn't when I hit a stump, more likely when I encountered an old tire or a large piece of discarded carpet. Things that absorb the impact of the blades rather than bounce the blades off were usually what stalled the engine. I am just curious what kind of ill effects this has on the tractor and if there is anyway to stop it.

A couple of weeks ago, as a favor, I offered to go and cover up some new field lines for an old friend. It saved him some money. When I saw him last week, He said he owed me a supper. I declined, He would not accept payment when he married me and the wife 17 years ago. It feels good to help others. The ones I try to avoid are the friends that expect help weekly. I have hauled broken down vehicles on my car hauler for family member for the last 5 years. My brother has never said thankyou, much less offered any gas money. Two weeks ago, I had to drive 125 miles to haul my nephews truck home from college when the tranny went out. This was my sisters son. His dad went with me. They (father and son) paid me $90. I was going to have to fight them if I did not accept this money. JC

That's a great example of what I was talking about earlier. Your BIL and his kid are good people then. They know hauling doesn't cost nothing. BTW, your good friend must be a REALLY good friend if he married both you AND your wife:confused: . lol...just kidding.

I started to say he married me, but that did not sound good at all. I forgot to mention, BIL also filled my truck up with fuel when we got home. JC

I use an LX5 and do 5 - 20 acre places.
I also remiove my bucket so I can see better - and keep an eye on the uncut portion next to you for stumps, logs, etc.

...and ant hills!!! The ones you notice with your front tires aren't so bad cuz your able to dodge them with the cutter. It's the ones that squeeze beneath the front and rear axles you gotta worry about :)

Here in Cda, the charge is 50$ per hour for any real rough work in tall reeds and bullrushes.

Bush hogging today on a badly grown up property that was once an old homesite and after an extensive walk thru felt pretty good about getting all the "easter eggs" out of the weeds. Only missed one thing, but that was a hefty solid copper ground rod about 12" tall. It was well grounded... :)
