You and family are in my prayers and I think everybody appreciates the updates.

Definitely find a good counselor. The young kids especially will probably (and understandably) have post traumatic stress disorder.

Anti-histamines like Fexofenadine (allegra) help a lot with poison ivy itching. Needless to say, though I think its over the counter the docs should be the ones making the administration decisions.

There is also a topical cream that works on poison Ivy - zanfel - but its not cheap.

WOW, one week since the accident. Everyone is improving and everyone is out of the ICU and Trauma units. The doctors are now telling us the hard work begins at least for the patients and their family and this is the rehab.

My wife Joy has been moved to a different hospital, Specialty Select on Hayes Street here in Nashville. It is a rehab hospital and they specialize in lung problems and wound care. She could be here for a month or longer. I finally saw her wound last night. She was so bruised it began to abscess. The doctors had to cut the abscess away. They will do a skin graph in a 10-day to two weeks. She is improving daily.

Drew, my grandson, is doing well. All of his tubes have been removed. He is running a slight fever. If he continues to improve he will be move to Stallworth Rehab on Monday or Tuesday. Then after a short rehab he will be going home. The doctors said he would be in bed for at least 12 weeks. The are hoping his fractured pelvis and collarbone will heal by themselves.

Johanah, my grand daughter, had another operation on Friday. They removed one of the wound vacuums and closed up a wound on her lower leg. They are not talking much about when she will leave the hospital. We know she will have a least two more operations.

When you stop to think about what happened we are very grateful that God spared their lives. We are very appreciative of all the support from our friends and family. Please continue to pray for the recovery of these folks.

God bless you,

Don

Don, I'm glad to hear that progress is happening for everyone....

I know you are busy taking care of so much that it's easy to forget yourself... you are key to everyone...so, don't forget to take care of yourself as well... physically and emotionally you need to prioritize your own needs so that you can be there for everyone else. It's hard to do, but loving and taking care of yourself is the best thing that you can do for your loved ones recovery.

Thanks for the updates, I pray that they continue to be positive.

Don,
I can't imagine how hard this is for you and your family. I am glad that you are seeing positive gains. We are moving from Arizona to Kentucky and my wife, myself and our three children have been making numerous trips across the country, an accident such as this is allways in my thoughts. God bless and God heal

Glad to hear it continues to be good news, Don. We'll be passing through your neighborhood (Nashville) Wednesday or Thursday enroute to a family reunion in West Virginia. Naturally, we're hoping the Interstates will be safe.

I haven't been keeping up to date with this forum. Just moments ago saw this thread for the first time. My heart skipped a few beats when I read the original post. I'm thrilled beyond words at the progress everyone has made. There's tough days and hard work ahead, but it looks like things are looking up. My prayers, and those of my family go out to all involved. Don, thanks for keeping everyone up to date. You take care of YOURSELF too. I can only imagine how tough this has been on you. GOD bless.

God is marvelous! Pray works! All of my family is doing much better. I visited my grandson and grand daughter last evening. Drew is doing well. He had finished his first day of Physical therapy he was a little sore but in really good spirits. The PT team will meet with the family Thursday to discuss what his treatment will be and possibly predict a discharge date to go home.

My grand daughter Johanah is doing much better. She talked to me a lot last night. She is some pain from the operation they did on Monday to pin her pelvis. The doctors are saying she might be released to go to Stallworth the rehab where her brother is by the end of this week.

Joy my wife is doing well, she was off of her ventilator two time yesterday for two hours each time. They are planning three hours today. If she keeps up this pace she will be weaned from the ventilator in about two week. The doctors were saying it would take about four weeks. Her wounds are healing well. They will repack her largest today we will have a better idea if she will need a skin graph. One doctor says she will probably heal without a skin graph.

Please accept my thanks for every pray you offer for my family. I have always believed in prayer but not as strongly as I do today. God uses times like these to strength us where we need it the most. Again thanks.

Don
