I've spent a lot of time on this site over the last few days/weeks and have learned a ton.

I've got 40 acres in WV, mostly woods. Old pastures that I'd like to clear and keep that way (2-10 acres, depending on ambition). Build a horse barn. Keep the lawn (2 acres) mowed. General work. Oh, and WV means hills, some steep.

I think I've decided on a 2615 4wd - I can get one with the FEL for $13,500. I like the dealer but don't know much about these things.

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated, especially concerning the cost.

I have the 2615 4WD and love it. But, if I were buying today still wanted a gear drive instead of HST, I'd look seriously at the new 3215 4WD. The 2815 and 3215 are new in the Mahindra 15 series. I'd check them out before buying.

Now, if you do decide to go with the 2615 4WD, you'll be getting a great machine that will probably serve your purposes well. I just think the new machines are worth a look.

On price... $13,500 for a 2615 4WD w/ FEL is a pretty good price (at least in my opinion). You can probably find better deals around, but if you like the dealer (and he/she has a good reputation for taking care of their customers) I don't think you'll be getting cheated at that price. If you've definitely decided on the Mahindra brand and the 2615 4WD in particular, you might do some shopping around getting quotes from other Mahindra dealers within a reasonable distance (just for bargaining power).

Good luck. Keep us posted on your decision.

First, welcome to the net. I have the 2615HST I bought in Aug. 04. About a year and a half old now and just over 100 hrs. I enjoy any seat time I get on mine. Only problem I had was a leaky loader valve (bucket would drop) but that was replaced under warranty. I've seen pics of the new models but the 2615 is all I need. I posted a review here and think Bob did too. Implements I have include a 5' rake, 5' backblade, Snowblower, Homemade bucket forks, homemade 3 pt. trailer hitch, cab, and extra lights. Pics of mine in photo section. Good luck on your purchase.

I have a 2615 HST. I bought in Sept. 05. I really enjoy it. It has alot of power and is very easy to drive. I have a FEL that I could not do without. I have not had 1 minutes worth of trouble with it. I use it to blade my lane about 1500' and brush hog about 5 acres or so. It is a really sweet machine.

Well which is it 2 or 10 acres? I have just under 7 and think it is fine. If it is 10 I would opt for more hp and weight.

Well, its a bunch of old pasture that has grown up - now small trees, brush, multiflora rose. It all depends on how much pasture I decide I want, or simply how much I'd like cleared. I'll keep some of it as is - good wildlife habitat.

Guess it also depends on how many horses my wife and daughter accumulate.

Anyway, it won't happen all at once - I'm still fairly convinced 26 hp will do the trick but hey, I'm new to this. A week ago I was only looking for 16 or 20 hp.

I may "skid" logs with it to - not far. Any opinions on that?

I really appreciate the feedback, folks.

Simie,

I have a 2615HST. Currently working on clearing a spot for a garage. After cutting down trees that are 6-12 inches thick I use the 2615 to pull them to where they will become firewood. No problem!

My dealer want's 12700 for a 2015 gear with loader and ag tires. Your price or the 2615 sounds very nice.

I use/used a B7100 gear to move a lot of logs and brush around on my hilly woods. The 2615 should be adequate. Depending on what you want to do with the parts of the woods you work in, you might want to consider Kubota. There is about 1/3 less soil compacting weight in the orange tractors compared to a similar Mahindra. On the other hand, maybe the weight is something you need to get the job done.

simie, Shop the price, you might do a little better. I gave $12,700 a year ago for a 2615 gear with ML106 loader. I'm not sure how much prices have gone up since last year and $13,500 isn't awful but obviously any less would be good. As far as the 2615 I have 5 acres partially in timber and my Mahindra is more than adequate, easy to operate and virtually trouble free so far at about 60 hours. I've moved some huge rocks, I've pulled some pretty good size downed trees from the woods, lots of mowing and some loader work. I'm pleased with the 2615 and would rate it a 9 on a 10 point scale. That's pretty good for me since I rate nothing a 10, critic that I am. 426DMB

Hmmm, 40 acres, WV, clearing for pasture... Have you had any previous tractor experience, simie? I had, before buying a 2615 HST last July, and really planned on buying a gear. But after the first day using HST, I wondered how I ever got along without it. Ditto for the backhoe. We really needed it, one of the major criteria for deciding to buy a heavier and NEW tractor, which is largely why we opted for the Mahindra. The combination has worked out great for our 8 acres with lots of stump pullings and moving material.

IF the 3215 had been available, I would wish I could afford it. But all is well, the 2615 has done far more than we'd expected - much more than with the previous supposedly more powerful orange thing, for much less money - so there really have been no regrets. Given a change to trade the 2615's HST for the 3215's extra power, if at the same price I would be tempted. But the backhoe & HST have more than proven their value, around here. And we have skidded & moved some really big logs.

If your dealer is knowledgeable, trustworthy & capable, you won't be disappointed by either choice.
