My Industrial Cabin Build

Nice video. I hope you don't mind my repost. You have good helpers. I'm not the safety police, but I'll admit that I did cringe a bit watching you standing under a panel suspended by a strap and apply adhesive while your SIL is hammering on a support post (don't ask me how many stitches that lesson cost me).

Nice, watched on the tv instead of phone. wondered if you got any work done with the rain today.

It rained crazy. I would have burned some debris piles but the wind was bad. I tried to do some work in the build and it beat me up pretty good.

Repost to your hearts content. I can use all the exposure I can get.

Thats quite a process to get each panel into position. Is that spray foam that you are using to glue the the panel to the sill plate? Does anything else hold the panel to the sill plate?

I think I remember seeing them using an air nailer to nail the OSB to the sill plate.

I believe you nail every 6” inside and out

With all the discussion of the anchor bolts, that seems a little weak (nailing OSB to plate).

stronger than conventional construction that only has osb on one side, if that.

That plate becomes part of that panel when it’s glued and nailed in. Same as the 2x6 installed between panels.

Each panel is nailed to the foot plate with 8d nails every 6 inches o.c. The foot plate is bolted to the foundation and sill plate with 101 5/8!inch jbolts. You apply sip-seal, which is a sticky and flexible sealant, any time you have wood to wood. When it is wood to foam, you use expanding foam. The point of those is to create an air tight seal. They also adhere very strongly. There are dimensional lumber splines at regular intervals to augment the already strong and substantial panels. If built properly, SIPs panel houses are extremely strong and well insulated and quite “tight”. The technology has been around for over 50’years. This house should be standing long after everyone who is alive has forgotten my name.
