"I had found the "float" position thanks but you said that the joystick "locks", mine springs back to the "N" position, is that right? I did wonder about it as it has to go past the "down" position from float and if I went too slow the bucket pressed down.

There is a detent position that should hold the joystick in the "float" position. On my Deere, this is accomplished by pushing the stick forward (to it's limit), which should be lowering the loader arms. You should feel the stick going into the detent.
I'm assuming the raising and lowering of your loader is controlled by joystick fore-aft movement (as my tractor FEL is).
If you don't feel the detent when pushing forward, try other limits of the joystick travel...it may be different on your Kubota.
If you don't feel the detent at any limit of the stick travel, the detent springs may be worn out or missing...or your machine doesn't have a "float" position.
