Just found your thread. This is one case where substituting RTV for
the paper gaskets is clearly superior. Paper gaskets are very fast to install
(as on the assembly line) but not as good as RTV. If you look at the
crankshaft where the seal lips rub, there was some wear, correct? If you
reinstall the seal holder with RTV instead of a paper gasket, the rubber
lip of the seal will rest on an unworn, larger diameter part of the crank.
That is due to the RTV seal being thinner than the paper gasket.

BTW, my B21's crank seal failed, which destroyed the clutch.

I don't know if you said...how many hours on this Kubota?

hey, too late! I put it on already :D
I used a very thin film of rtv on the paper gaskets...both of them. The paper gaskets were very, very thin btw.
I think it has around 1400 hrs.
I'm surprised that a leaking rear main would destroy a clutch/pressure plate like mine was...I can see it making the clutch disc slip, but not disintegrated into many peices?

Oh no, your seal was not even leaking (yet), from what I can see.
Misalignment of the shafts/plates caused your breakage I would think.
My clutch was completely contaminated with oil.

What did you pay for this unit and where?

I bought it from noonday tractor auction in flint TX for 4000.

I knew the dangers of buying sight unseen, but figured with the price so good, I would still come out ahead if I had to fix something

believe it or not, I think I'm still gonna be okay financially. I will probably have 1500 to 2000 into it after everything... so about 6000 lets say...but now I have a rebuilt/restored tractor

Went to the dealer today and crawled under a BX25 with FEL and BH and looked at the subframe brace. It looks pretty simple. I think I can do something up once I get it back together.

also, I'm in the process of trying to figure out how I'm going to get the clutch on. I have a new clutch and pressure plate, but no clutch tool. Wonder if I need to call the dealer and buy one?
Ideas?
thx

Clutch tool???? Why? Look at my clutch post, I asked the same thing. Some used broom handles, wood dowels, whatever fit. What worked for me was a deep well socket that fit in the crank perfectly (10mm?) and then I put tape on the 3/8" square side until built out enough so the disk fit snugly over it but not too tight so I could get the socket out. Worked like a charm.

yeah, I had heard about wood dowels before, but dont have any or know anywhere around here that sells em...broom stick is too big.

but, your idea with the 3/8 socket sounds pretty good.
thx

You can use anything that is round and centered

Uour dealer may lend you a line up tool (if you are good wth them)

You could do it by eye if nothing else.

It does seem odd that they don't send one. Maybe because they would rather you pay a dealer to do the work instead if DIY. You can fab one, you have what it takes. ;)
