My pole barn...a solo affair

Brandi,
It sure is impressive how you've managed to tackle this project by yourself.
There's a lot to be said for that. I read about your bucket platform in the Mahindra section too...pretty cool.

Brandi,

Did you mention your price, or did I miss that (for the barn)?

Also, I went to the link for your video on the tractor, but the only one I could find was a guy with two small kids.

Keep up the great work and pics, God bless.

Eddie,
The house you showed (Finished Oct) with the porch, was those 6x6 posts? Were they solid wood?

Yes, they are 6x6 PT posts. Since they were always going to be painted, I fixed them with bondo to make them smooth and square. One gallon of bondo was more then enough for all the posts. When painted, they look perfect.

Just found your barn. Looks good!
What kind of insulation did you put under the metal roof panels ?

Had to rebuild ours recently due to flood ....I designed the new cabinets and had a guy build 'em then helped him do the install. Note the size of the pot drawers and just to the left of them - deep towel drawers.

That countertop looks very familiar. Nice job on the cabinets. Lots of good thought went into that design.:)

Rob,
I really take it as a challenge when someone tells me I can't do something.

Idabe,
I totaled up around $9000 so far, but that was about a year ago before I bought $900 more in siding and more hardware for the door tracks. I guess around $11,000 in materials now. I will have to add it up this weekend. The barn RED siding is about twice as expensive as the white, but it comes with a 25 or 30 year guarantee.
That video is Joel up in Kentucky. I don't see mine either. But if you PM me with your email address, I will try to dig it out and send it to you.
God Bless you also and thanks.
hugs, Brandi

Denmansoft,
Thanks. The insulation is Efoil. It is 1/4 inch bubble with white on one side and foil on the other side. It would work better if put over the trusses and under the purlins. But mine is on top of the purlins. Call it an engineering afterthought! I bought it from Mueller Metals in 6x120 foot rolls. Lowes sales it in different width and length rolls. You suppose to tape the seams, but all my seams fell on the 2x4 purlins, so I took the tape back. It took around $550-600 dollars for the insulation.

I have built many pole barns. I have dug most with a 24 inch auger on a skid loader. When you get in to rocks you need a back hoe. I just dug a bunch of holes with a track hoe. It works fine. On all my barns I do factor in for uplift. I put a 4-6 inch base of concrete 20-24 in diamater under all posts. I then do the following for uplift protection: Take a treated 2x6 cut it aprox 20 inches long and nail it with 4 20d galivinized nails toward the bottom of the post forming a "T". No way for the post to pull out, I have tried its almost impossible. I have built clearspan pole barns up to 72 feet wide and have had no problems. You wont believe how much that little T sturdies a post. On my corners I put 2, one going one way the other going the other forming an "X" As far as concrete around a post goes I dont use it, it holds moisture and the post may rot early. Good luck.
