Is this a complete kit you ordered ? If so who did you purchase it from ? I am in the planning stages for a 40x60x16 barn. Your project looks very nice !!!!

Yes, I got it from Mueller. They were super easy to deal with and the price was fair.

I decided to go ahead and start today. The weather was nice and the concrete is curing well. I was very happy with progress we made today, a neighbor helped for 1/2 the day and I worked alone or with my wife for the other 1/2. He helped with the rafters, which was huge, the other bay has the roll up doors so it's all framed in smaller material and I can do it alone if needed.

Our progress today, the forklift doesn't quite reach to the peak so we stacked up some pallets and and chained it down. That gave us the reach we needed and we got them set.



If all goes well, I hope to have it fully framed in 3 days. Once that's done, it's going to depend on weather, we stay pretty windy here and it's going to be tough to do siding and roofing if I don't get some calmer days.

LOL, no that's my fair skinned, redheaded wife. She's always covered from head to toe, the sun is rough on her.

Honestly, I didn't mind writing the check for the building, it's above ground and I can see it. The concrete, on the other hand, that check hurt.

Oh i didn't mind either. It was just a really small pile for $20K. As to the concrete I didn't mind that at all and I appreciate it everytime I sweep or roll my welding table around on my smooth, crack free concrete.

Thanks but really, there isn't anything that complicated about this, the building is just a giant piece of Ikea furniture. It doesn't give you the assembly order but, shows all the details so if you can follow a plan and turn a wrench, you can put the building together. The skill comes when the siding and roof go on, not everyone can get those straight, especially the roof lines. Hopefully, mine turns out correctly.

I agree. I would only add that the precision used when "squaring" the framework will come to light when the roof and siding are added. As my Grandpa would say "measure twice, cut once".

So, I lost the last couple of days because of a bearing failure on my steer axle spindle. When I bought it, there wasn't a lot of room to drive it around much and test it and once I got it here, I felt the tire chunking but, there were some nasty chunks missing from the tire and I thought that was what was causing it but, turned out it was this.



The shop that's repairing it was nice enough to drop off a loaner and pick mine up today so I was able to get back to work and make some real progress. I'd normally have fixed the forklift myself but, time is in short supply and I kind of need the shop done to have the space to work on it, so...

Here's today's progress.



Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the roof purlins up, the rest of the side wall bracing done, square everything up and torque it down and get the walk door installed. Then comes the hard part with our normal 10MPH - 15MPH winds. We get a couple of calm hours early and late so I guess I'll just have to make the most of those.

Are you going to paint or otherwise mark the bolts as you go through the torquing process? It seems like there are plenty of ways to get distracted and miss one.
