Rob,

You get what you pay for and in our cases (yours and mine) we won't settle for less. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

MDNY,
How much snow do you get in upstate New York. With all those valleys, /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I'd be spending way to much time on that roof shoveling snow in the winter. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Agree,

We didn't get much where I live, but out at my land maybe a bit of slushy stuff. Last week at this time it was 92 degrees out and today it was, well, 38 degrees when I got up and about mid 50's this week. Hard frost tonight.

Rob,

We have verbally confirmed with the bank that we are going ahead. I will be dropping off the paperwork tomorrow and getting ready to close the deal in the next 30 days. So now I get to confirm my site work crew and the builder and finally in the next 3-4 weeks I will be getting going. Maybe in by early to mid October. Not what I wanted, but then again I would like to win the Powerball Lottery, but we don't offer it in NYS.

Congratulations! I know you'll be excited when they start moving dirt and pounding nails /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif It all goes so fast.

We've had a dull couple of days on the site. Framers are waiting for a final backfill so they can erect some staging to finish the roof. In the meantime, we've been busy selecting plumbing fixtures, door hardware and colors. Also decided to do our own ceramic tile. We'll end up with ceramic for less than the price of installed vinyl. I may have to start a "help me with ceramic tile" thread later /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,

Sounds like things are moving along nicely for you. We actually have everything already done, selected and priced into the house. From flooring to plumbing fixtures etc. It is sure costing alot, but heck were worth it. It will be our only home and since we are just starting out we have plenty of time to get used to a house.

Just talked to the builder, looks like end of May for him to start. We need to get the closing done, and the site work finished so we can close the loan. About 3-4 weeks to do that. So in 30 days we should be rockin. I will take lots of pics with my new digital camera.

I will take lots of pics with my new digital camera.

That's certainly my intention as well but once again I got out there tonight without the camera /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Got some more backfilling done so the framers were back at it today. One more roof peak done with a couple more to go. Bricks and such delivered for the chimney, that's fun /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

We did a lot of "preliminary" specing out with our builder ahead of time and she arrived at the quote with allowances for most everything. Now we get to fill in the blanks with the actual products and colors. It's working well for us as we get to spread the decisions out a bit, not too overwhelming. She did a pretty good job so far on the allowances as we've been able to get what we want and stay pretty close to budget.

What, if anything, are you planning on doing yourself? Bet you're getting antsy /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,

Antsy is not even close. We are having the builder do it all. My goal is to be able to move in and not have to fix something for a while (yah right).

We had chosen all of our options upfront becuase we wanted to make sure everything was selected, priced and correct so we weren't rushed at the wrong time. The only items yet to be selected is the siding color and roof shingle colors. The master bathroom cabinet color too. The former builders kitchen/bath rep not only lost the deal when we canned them, but he gave us incorrect info on a color that doesn't belong to the cabinet we chose. So we now have to figure that out.

I am meeting with the excavators on Sunday to map out the clearing zone, pay them a deposit and get the contract. We should be clearing in two weeks, closing in three to four (better be three) and starting the foundation by the beginning of June.

We are now facing a late October move date instead of early September. But its good we are behind, since our builder is behind on the other house. We had allot of rain so he is a bit behind. But he is doing due diligence.

Good luck. photo's soon.
