My tractor can lift more than it can curl

is breakout force curl? or just lift at ground level?

Breakout force is curl. You're loader appears to be rated at almost 2800# of breakout force at the pin. It shouldn't have a problem curling a 1400# skid.

Your lift capacity is only 1560# at the pin. I'd expect problems with a 1400# skid since it sticks out 48" from the pin, putting a lot more weight farther out from the pin.

I have no idea why your machine won't curl 1400#. I don't think larger cylinders will be the answer. There might be a problem with the bypass being set too low. Best to have someone professional check that out than monkeying around with it yourself.

Maybe someone else can give you some better advice. Have you talked to a dealer or tractor repair shop about it?

Breakout force is curl.

Nope. I thought that for the longest time too. The video below does a good job of explaining ASME S301.5 and the terms used, but basically, breakout and lift are both using only the lift cylinders, and rollback is using only the bucket cylinders. Breakout is at ground level, and lift is measured at a specified height. Rollback is separate, and measured a specified distance ahead of the pins.

Not true! my tractor is rated at 1,560 to full height at the pin. I'm well below full lift height so it can lift more closer to the ground. Plus I already stipulated I should be using a larger machine, but that's not an option. This is already a big machine for less than 1 acre of property. To me the problem is clearly with the curl as a properly designed machine should be able to control what it can lift. Therefore curl should always be more than lift.

Even with SSAQ pallet forks the center of gravity of your pallet load on the forks is a ways out from the pins. So not only can it lift less there, it can curl less too. Even a few inches makes a difference. The other day I went to move an IBC tote full of firewood. I didn't slide the forks in all the way, there was a few inches remaining. The loader would not curl up. I had to put it down and slide the forks home, then it would do it.

You were definitely exceeding your lift capacity with that pallet load. Since a larger machine is out of the question, really about all you can do is try to set it on the ground slowly and try curling it back as the weight sits more on the ground. Then after you break this one, try to get a machine with at least 2000 lb lift at the pins.

My loader is rated to 2100 lbs to full height. I can and have lifted and carried 1400 lb pallets. Believe me, you still know it's there.

Is that your PT all growed up?

Thanks.

I was moving some large logs this past week and I noticed the same thing, sometimes I couldn't curl it. But then with the same exact log with a minute position change I COULD curl it. I thought it weird, but maybe position to the pins is that crucial.
