Thank you for the link.

I may be mistaken, but didn't they used to put wood floors in gravel dump trucks years ago? I have a metal floor in one of my trailers, and it's as wavy as it can after years of being bent by this and that. It has probably outlasted several wood floors.

2many, I dont know about dump trucks but I know they did put wood floors in pickup beds in the 60's and early 70's.........it's too bad I am old enough to remember that!!

Being too old to remember wood floors in trucks beats the alternative...

I had a trailer, now owned by my brother that I built and sheeted it with 18 guage. I put a lot of crossmembers under it, about 14" squares, so it has fared pretty well. It was a piece of galvanized sheet, which helped it last over the years (hmmmm, about 27 years)
My ugly dump trailer has .250 sheet on it, but the weight isn't too bad, since it is aluminum.

I haven't given up on my dump trailer in case you were wondering! I have been otherwise occupied this week, I usualy don't work in the garage on Mondays as I have a bible study/accountability group right after work and when I get home its to late to start anything. On Tuesday I got home from work and went to the garage to work on it and the first weld I ran out of gas for the welder ...... Guess where I get my gas? Yup about 1/2 mile from my work and thats 30 miles away and gasoline is 3.99 and well you get the picture :mur:, Wednesday I had to go to Pigsburg, Thursday was a dr.s appointment and mowed the yard. Friday's I come home and take a nap for a few hours then get up and hit it so this is what I got done today.

Since I couldn't do any welding Tuesday I took the oppertunity to clean the shop and straighten up the steel rack, also fixed a flat on the trailer. I picked up my steel for the floor and sides plus I went through our scrap box at the saw at work. I didn't get pics of the floor or sides but will try tomorrow. everything weighed #300 and I paid .15 a pound for a $45 price tag! Most of it will not be used in this project but I included it in the price of the trailer which I will have to tally up but think it is somewhere in the neighborhood of $250 so far. I had some time before my Dr.s app. so I stopped at a scrap yard not far from the shop (I worked there for a time when I was out of work and they give me very good prices on steel and this is the place I got my welder from. Millermatic 250 $400!) and picked up some 1 1/2 square 1/8 wall tube about 15' for the trailer and a 1/2 round for a stop extention on my HF band saw, $10

I welded the tongue on tonight and also some corner braces and stiffeners and also my safety prop.

So I just figured the capacity of my dump trailer and it works out to 36 sq feet and at 120# per foot as per wiki should have a capacity of 2.16 tons! the name of this trailer will be KF DT 2.16. Kens Fabrication Dump Trailer 2.16 ton.

Careful. If you give your trailer an all official sounding name like that you are going to have to make up a spec sheet and user's manual... Maybe list some optional accessories "available from your local dealer."

Some of the options are sand, gravel, mulch, wood and since I had to rake the entire 3/4 acre yard Friday, grass clippings!
