I couldn't see anything in the mess, but now I can and did find one bad connection. Now there's some order. Also, I want to check continuity in the other items between the connector halves. I am not enjoying this, but at least I can try to satisfy my concern about these items that might have problems. Once I reassemble it, I might have learned something.

eKretz: I've replaced some of the wiring for the transmission (N H Ford 445C 8X8 4wd loader with Ford 764 detachable backhoe.) It all started with it slipping out of sooner and sooner. Now I can't figure where the problem might. I'm too old and easily tire while working on it.

Here are some photos of my Hanlei's. Maybe I just don't know how to set them.
1. It jumps at 25%, up or down. Hard get it to .85.
2 if I get the delay to 3 seconds, it all just disappear when I turn it off.

If this makes any sense perhaps you might have some suggestions.
BTW, I Got VVV, just once. UUU I a;ways get. I checked under the cover and all seemed new,

Is it possible that your "UUU" is actually "000" and the display is just not displaying those top segments for some reason? I would like to see what all your settings are set to on both controllers, if you can look through there and write those down then post them it would be helpful.

Now, I have the opportunity to expose my lack of knowledge about these controllers. Sometimes I think I know how to set them, but it doesn't come out as I expected. OK, this what I think right now, I think I pressed the wrong sequences and possibly messed up the defaults. Nothing seems as they came brand new. (I do have one spare controller I haven't touched yet. A total of 3.)
The U is made up in 3 segments whereas the 0 is 2 segments. I only saw VVV one time. The UUU only come in a group of three, whereas 0s always come as 004 or regular numbers.

Thank you for spending your time with me. Tomorrow am, I'll go to the shed and to write down the settings. How do I check the settings? I'd appreciate your take on that and I'll learn something. Fred

Fred, see post #80 in this very thread for the settings instruction sheet:

I took your advice and tried setting the fwd controller and inadvertently the tractor bumped forward!!! I don't know what I did then. Sometimes, I can't figure out the simplest solutions like the settings.
The function button does what? Do I press it more than once to move to the next function? e.g., 6 times to function 6? Also, when I turn it off, and back on everything is gone. I don't seem to set it correctly.
At least I got that bump fwd.
(below)
0498, I get the numbers, but they disappear when I cut the power or switch from fwd to rev.
0476, 3-way toggle and momentary toggle.
0480, weatherproof box. I haven't cleaned up the wires yet.
Eric, I don't know if I followed your suggestions accurately, but I hope you can do something with this. I haven't contacted Ted at Tractor.net. I feel bad enough asking for your time.

Fred, power up the controller and press the button with the gear on it to enter the settings menu. Each push of the gear button will advance you one setting. You can continuously cycle through the settings by pressing that button repeatedly. While looking at a setting, use the arrow keys to adjust the setting up or down. When you're done, press the on/off button to exit the settings menu.

Don't worry about my time, I don't mind giving you a hand one bit, happy to help. What are you using the toggle switch for?

If it helps, my settings on both controllers are as follows:
1. Soft start time = 3 sec
2. Soft stop time = 0.2 sec
3. Min PWM out = 0%
4. Max PWM out = 85%
5. Step value = 1%
6. Undervolt protect = 10V
7. Over current protect = 3A
8. Voltage or Amperage = A

Eric, are you passing by my area any time soon?
Message #157 if full of info I have been looking forward to. It'll take me a bit to digest it. The toggle you question is actually 2 toggles. My shuttle broke. The pin that held it to the column quit and it was rusty. OK, the two wires in the handle are connected to a momentary toggle by a former owner. I haven't touched it. I installed a 3-way toggle for the remaining three wires: Fwd-N-Rev, it seems to work ok.
About the settings: I'm a bit confused, I think. I thought settings 1, 2, 7 and 8 were to be used. 3-4-5-6, were to be ignored. I'm looking forward trying them all out. Will need another nap first.
Eric, the reason I asked if you might be coming by is, after a year of work, I redesigned a 14' skiff with a 50 Merc I just restored and about another couple hundred parts, I have some friends that will help me launch it. All will OK as long as my better half doesn't find out I'm actually going to try it out! I'll try to send photo later today.

Fred, I appreciate the invite, but I'm afraid I'm all the way up on the northern side of the country, so I will not be in your neck of the woods anytime soon. I would be more than happy to drop by if I was closer, and sure would like to see your newly restored boat!

I included all the settings in my list just in case you had inadvertently changed any that you hadn't intended to, so you could confirm they are at least near where they should be.

Setting 4 needs to be high enough that it provides enough voltage to the solenoids, and I settled on 85% there. You should also watch your battery voltage and ensure that it doesn't go low, as that could affect voltage to the solenoids. That 85% is simply 85% of whatever voltage level your battery is at, and should provide around 12VDC with the alternator charging a good battery.

I'm not sure why you'd need two toggle switches in that area. The one 3-way switch should be all you need for the transmission shifting. I would wonder if the other toggle switch was perhaps installed to run the converter lock-up. But being momentary, probably not. Maybe it's another drop-out switch like on the shifter and loader lever?
