That looks like a nice tool. I guess the key to it working is the V, so it grips the tree or brush. Case485guy, I see you live in Portland. I'm just up the road in Victoria. Do any of the TSC's around you have any 72" Ratchet Rakes left? I've tried the one here and the surrounding areas, but none of them have it and some don't carry any of the sizes. I would like to have a 72" for the $199 clearance price. The property where the tractor is at now is between Cuero and Yoakum and most of the brush I want to clear there is youpon, so the RR might work good on it. I just came back from there today. Went up to fill the rear tires on the 5083E, so I could do some work with it. With the big loader, it's light in the rear end without ballast. Sure took awhile to fill those big tires 75% with water! Trying to get it ready to do some real work. It's just a baby with only 79 hours on it!

Rossco,

The TSC in Pleasanton had a 72 inch RR on the lot. I have a 5' bucket and I do not think it would work. I went out and pushed over some brush tonight and hit it with the shredder. It was slow going for sure. I will probably have to spray it eventually.

Grouse, thanks for the info. Wish I was going that direction. If I can't locate one closer, I might try Pleasanton. I know the RR isn't going to work miracles, but it looks pretty useful. Pulled out many a youpon around trees with a JD 950 by using the tines on the box blade or chain, but now that I have a larger tractor with a loader, I want to take full advantage of the convenience. I don't know if my neck could take all constant turning around like I did when I was much younger. Ahhh, the good old days!

Here's what I used to clean up all the scrub oaks and other saplings up to about 3" in dia.
I built it about 10 years ago and it worked VERY well. Pulls up the trees by the roots 99% of the time and causes a lot less ground disturbance than a bucket or blade or even a rake.
Also leaves the rootball much cleaner so it's easier to burn.
It's easy to use. Once you get a tree/bush into one of the V openings, as you lift the 3ph, back the tractor up at the same time. The pressure from lifting increases the traction of the rear wheels and pushing against the tree/bush at the same time keeps it tight in the V. Smaller brush can be pulled up more than one at a time. Once you have the brush uprooted, lower the 3ph and drive forward to clear out the opening, or drop the rootball over another tree that's lying perpindicular to the tractor wheels and you can get out the more tightly wedged stuff.

It worked so well that when I got my skidsteer, the first thing I made for it was a larger version of this attachment.

I am Mark Jones also. Neat.

My place is south of Charlotte towards Fowlerton. I was out there today for a few hours. I got to find a solution to these tire thorns.

Case, thanks for the info also on Robstown and Aransas Pass. I'll try and call them tommorow and see if they even know what I'm talking about. I've tried to search TSC stores online and they don't even show these listed. Our place is just outside Karnes City about 2.5 miles. Sounds like we have similar brush to deal with. Maybe we could get a group deal on some dozer work!

I think i am going to try the John deere brand tire flat proof stuff.
A neighbor sprayed with GrazonNext and Remedy Ultra mixed and had a good kill. An Uncle used Remedy Ultra mixed with diesel and spot sprayed, just spraying around the base of the brush and had good kill also.

rossco, I hear ya on the dozer, I recently priced a 550 dozer rental for 1500.00 per week.Last time I rented was around 975.00 for the week. The Eagle Ford has driven rentals up quite abit

I guess you could always foam fill your tires. I've used Remedy and diesel on Rosehedge before and had good results. Rosehedge is some nasty stuff. I will most likely do quite a bit of spraying around the trunks of the quisatche, but will still need to remove them after the kill. I was also told, if you can cut the roots below the surface a bit, they will die. You can also cut them at ground level and spray with Remedy & diesel, but you only have a window of time before they seal themselves off (about 30-45 minutes, I'm told) Since I don't live there, it will be a tough battle to fight, but playing on the tractor sure is fun! Especially when you have an a/c & heated cab with a radio. I'm feeling spoiled already.

I've had great results with the "Ratchet Rake", can't beat the price. Easy on and off and great for leveling driveway gravel.
