Need help with purchase of weight distribution hitch

My vote is for the Equal-I-Zer sway control hitch. As others said, it is a bit fiddly to figure out, but once set up is simple to install and uninstall. I used it on a 22-foot travel trailer on several trips from WA State to Illinois and back. I commonly exceeded a "safe" speed several times (in excess of 80 MPH), and never once had anything cause concern. It was always rock solid: no sway or wiggle, and easy to back up. As another poster said, it may squeak a bit if the bars are dry, but a little grease solves that. Unfortunately, I let it go with my trailer when I sold it. I don't have anything other than a utility trailer now, so don't need it, but they are pricey and I would hate to buy a new one.

I've always wondered if the "don't back up" thing is due to the possibility of jack-knifing the trailer and damaging the hitch.

Why shouldn't you back up straight or gradual curve?

I never had a problem, but apparently a sharp turn in reverse can damage the sway bars, the hitch, or the trailer tongue. I just made sure to minimize angles when backing up.

What about the Husky Center Line TS https://www.huskytow.com/husky-towing-center-line-ts I have been looking at that WDH for some time and from all I have watched it seems to be a very good WDH.
The Husky looks pretty good, the bars look a lot like Reese. But it does not seem to have sway control. Also clamping the thin end of the bars to the trailer bracket seems to be an extra step which make take it longer to connect every time, unless the bar slides under the clamp retainer - which it probably does. But I think sway control is essential.

Yes it does have sway control built into the hitch. From the link I gave: "Combines weight distribution and sway control in a single unit without additional hardware." Also in video reviews they talk about the sway control and how good it is.

Its a copy cat of the Equal-i-zer system. I'd just stay with the proven leader, Equal-i-zer, They have been around 75 years or more.
Looks that way to me, too. Equal-I-Zer is about as solid a system as you can get. After thousands of often high speed highway miles, I don’t recall a single problem with it.

I don't know how I missed it but it does state that it has sway control. You are right, thanks.

The OP has a equipment trailer and dump trailer. Both can be loaded properly to put the correct weight on the tongue. Both can also be not properly loaded and cause towing issues. Learn to load the trailers properly and you dont really need a hitch especially for only going 50mi.

If your towing a camper that's a totally different story.

My first time towing with a WD hitch was towing a 6500lb camper. It was very nice..but that's because campers typicaly have a ton of tongue weight and it's not easy to move back. I also towed this camper with no WD hitch and I have never felt the towing issues I did with a properly loaded equipment or dump trailer.
