Thanks to all. I found the problem my new connection between the neutral safety and the solenoid pulled apart. Scared myself when I cranked her over, This tractor never started so fast :D. Guess it did need the starter rebuilt and new cables. I will finish working on her tommorow and put her back in service. Thanks again for the help.

EMS -- glad to hear you got it going -- as I remember, a pair of battery pliers with a cloth in the jaws will take out the neutral safety switch if you ever need to -- they do fail once in awhile:eek:
Teg -- gotta watch out for those trees -- especially the viscious ones that jump in front of you:p

The MF35 Deluxe is a diesel engine. I was having starting issues with it, I was told the battery cables were probably to light and possibly corroded. So I removed the cables and had new ones made at the same time I took the starter to were I purchased it a few years ago and was told it was not working properly and had to be rebuilt. All was done and I began putting it back together and replacing other wire ends that were soaked with diesel fuel. I should say this tractor came with the farm and had no maintence done to it for a long time. I hooked the cables back up to the master switch and hooked the ground cable back after cleaning the area to clean metal. I also had the battery tested and was told it was good. Now that all is hooked back up the starter will not turn over. I tested it and have power at the big lug but not at the two smaller lugs, also no power reading at the ignition switch. I am not much of a mechanic but I try to do what I can. I retraced all my steps but still no good. Are the power readings normal or should I have power to the ignition switch or either small lugs. I spent most of today working on it and am begining to feel maybe the starter is not working. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

When I rebuilt my 1964 MF-135 diesel a few years ago, I rewired the entire tractor. You might want to do that to your MF-35 also and get rid of that nearly 50-year-old wiring. It's an easy job and it will eliminate future problems with faulty wiring.

My son in law and I do have plans to start restoring the 35 this summer, now that I have another tractor to fill in for the 35 on the PTO generator in case of power failure in the chicken houses. Have to take care of my bread and butter first. When I was replacing the cables on the 35 I did look over the wires all in bad shape and your right replacing the wires shouldn't be that bad being there really isn't that many. But I also have a few fuel leaks to repair. The sheet metal with the exception of the right fender is in good shape so not much body work. I have tried to remove the steering wheel but that is locked in solid. I have been soaking it with PB blaster to free it up. I want to take a clear look at the wires in the dash and work on the gauges. I have attached a picture of the old girl.
