Need suggestions for removing bushes

Yeah, that's an easy call. Backhoe 'em out.

You can use herbicides on bushes (or trees) effectively, though. They need to be actively growing (or wanting to) and you need to get the stuff to the root system. Drill a hole in the stumps and fill it with straight glysophate (Roundup - get the highest concentrate you can find).

Hmm... well, VRMAN has no personal information posted, so don't know where the info that he has a back hoe came from... but hope he does, else, ditch in front and chain it out.

(Original post says he has a BX23.)

Backhoe will do it.

OK... I've now learned that a BX23 is a backhoe... problem solved.:)

Thanks guys!

I wasn't sure if there was a quick and easy way. The bushes are about 10-12 feet high already. I had read somewhere that someone ran over their bushes with a bush hog to cut them down, then used a box blade to pull the bushes out. I don't have any experience with either one of them, so I wanted to check and see what other options would be out there.

Guess I'll stick with the BH and do em 1 at a time! :)

depending on the type of bush, i think you will be pleased with the BH option. not only will you get the root ball out you will have a dang good time doing it. dont forget to check for any underground lines before you dig.

happy diggin

I'd try several approaches mixing the tools/ideas mentioned in this thread... like dig a ditch along one side cutting some of the roots, then attach chain and see if they can be pulled up, then go back and dig up remaining roots later... much of doing a task with a tractor and equipment is trial and error and seeing what works best for the soil and task being done.

I have a row of bushes along two lengths of my property line (about 900ft total), and there is a fence that runs right next to them on the outside. 1*I have a BX23, and I'm wondering what is the best attachment to cut them down, and then rip them out of the ground. I had someone come in a couple years ago and cut them all to the ground for me (they did it by hand with chainsaws), so there shouldn't be any real thick ones yet.

My only other alternative is spraying, but I've heard trying to kill off bushes with spray is a waste of time.

Or should I just spend the money and have someone manually cut them down again, and then removed the bases with the BH?

Thanks!!
