Need Suggestions on Tractor for Removing Cedar Trees

Question -- what are you planning to do with the cedar wood? Have you looked into having it milled or given away for firewood? IF you truly have alot of it - isnt there anyone interested in the wood? You might be better off buying a stump grinder on a large tractor so you can quickly get it ready for pasture as long you dont need to plow it. If you really want to follow other poster advice and push over trees, anything over 20 ft scares me, but then its just me. I'd invest in cage custom built on your tractor- might be a smart investment IF the time comes.
I admire people who clear lands themselves and making it working within their lifetime, but at the same time still find a way to go a bit green.

As k0ua pointed out, these cedars yield very little wood. They are more branch than trunk. What I may do, however, if I'm feeling particularly energetic, is cut the branches off the large and medium size ones and use the trunks for rustic fencing. I've seen some really cool fences that used rustic cedar posts for pickets.

Considering that lumber yard cedar pickets are about $2.50 each these days, using these knocked down cedars might be both economical and environmentally friendly too. But it would be a lot of work, and I'll have no shortage of other work to do on this place.

Unfortunately most of my cedars are on slopes too steep to work. But I have neighbors who have cleared a lot of cedar. They simply bought a large - 65 hp - and old tractor for the job, then sold it after for almost what they paid for it. The idea of working shortly after a rain is good for all trees. It's a lot easier when the top foot or so of soil is soft.
