Are you from Florida too?

East there GolfAddict, cause you know one day you aspire to relocate here and drive slow in inside lane with blinker on.

For vertical loads, yes, but a horizontal (ie side load) or a shockload is another story.

I'll bet it's true with the boom straight out horizontal, and I don't imagine the hydraulics are strong or fast enough to shock load anything beyond design load either; you would have to drop a load on it or something like that. Not that it couldn't have been done, but Billy Joe Bob isn't going to achieve it by hooking to an elephant and trying to lift it off the ground normally.

True, it probbaly cant hurt itself lifting something vertically, but if you were lifting a load that was badly rigged and it were to slip, drop 3 feet and catch, you could easily shock load the boom.
Or, try to lift and pull sideways with the boom extended.

They are beautifully designed machines, but it's designed to be as light as possible, look at how small, almost dainty the components are compared to the heavy duty 4x4 construction grade machines, that do not allow for crane use.

Even though the manufacturer sanctions the use as a crane, You could easily damage one of these tow behinds with negligent material handling use.
The rental industry is notorious for abused equipment. I just don't think it's a great idea to promote them as dual use.

I've used the 50 footers a few times in the last 2 years, I am impressed with their capability for such a compact portable package. 50 feet is pretty high for such a light duty machine, there's alot of play in them at that height.
