What works for one person, may not work for someone else. An orifice will let a certain GPM flow, to operate the cylinder. A FEL valve is doing the same thing by activating the lever a small amount, and allowing a certain GPM to flow. There is only a small drop in pressure after the orifice. Wayne has a hydraulic shop, and could set up a test and verify the results. He would have pressure gages, and flow meters, cyl, etc. About the only results we would like to see is, what GPM is being pushed through a .030 orifice, compared to an orifice of .250, and timing on a 2 in cyl with a 1.125 rod, and a 14 in stroke, using a 10 GPM pump. He probably won't do it for me, but maybe for the rest of you guys. If I am wrong, so be it.

Andy, would you have an estimated travel time difference between a 2" and 3" cylinder? Would you say 25%-50%? Maybe an educated guess?

Don't know how many gal the .030 orifice will flow, but if it will pass 5 GPM into a cylinder.

Maybe this will answer some questions.

CYL BORE ----- GPM ----- IPS

3-------10-------------5.4
2-------10-------------12.3

3--------5--------------2.7
2--------5--------------6.1

3--------2--------------1.1
2--------2--------------2.5

Have to agree with Mountain on the extra for the needle valve. Expecially if one doesnt know how to calculate the restrictor or its workings. To be able to infinetly adjust it is well worth the extra money. Of cource more moving parts and seals to go wrong with it.

Very interesting discussion over what I though was a simple question!
I'm not concerned about having to adjust the needle valves as the valve will be right behind the seat so I can stand off to the side of the tractor, move the lever, too fast, close the valve, too slow open the valve, no problem. I'm also not too concerned about it being more complicated and breaking for 2 reasons. First it is such a small addition to the overall complication that is already in place that it hardly makes any difference, and second I can just unplug it from the line and go on without it.

Looks like I was dead on with J_J's qualifications. :D

Wayne, It puzzles me greatly why you think you are so superior. Perhaps you are ashame to back up what you say with reference material. If I don't know something, I look it up. I am getting old, and can not keep all the data in my head. I believe my answers are fully thought out and presented so that just about anyone could understand. I feel sorry for you with your low life attitude about other peoples knowledge. Don't be smiling, I am not your dumb hick, and I was born about 69 years ago, and I do have just a little bit of knowledge, no matter where it came from.

J_J, I absolutely do not think I am superior to anyone or anything. It was you that badgered me for my qualifications, shall I paste the link to your posts? I don't have time to go running around trying to prove my point to you. I am busy repairing equipment, gaining real world knowledge. If anything, I respect the knowledge that my elders have. I learned much of what I know from my elders. I show a tremendous amount of respect and gratitude to my elders, at least the ones that respect others. You have treated me with a "holier than thou" attitude from day one. Like you had something to prove. I have absolutely nothing to prove here. I could disappear from this site today and nobody would know the difference, same for you. This site could disappear from my life and nothing would change for me. I'm not here to make friends or prove anything. I am just a naturally helpful person, no matter what anyone thinks of me. My intent was not to get into a food fight. If anything, I have not posted certain things here in order to avoid them. However, when certain things are so blatantly incorrect, and it costs members needless money, I feel the need to chime in. Honestly, I actually think you are a pretty smart guy. I also know that there are many here with more or different hydraulic knowledge than I.

So, the only reason I badgered you for your qualifications was you badgering me for mine. What's good for the goose.....you know. Now, rather than continue the food fight, I will let it rest.

Andy

I really appreciate the help but the bickering has got to go. You guys are both smart with differing opinions which is fine. I'd wager to guess you 2 would be great friends if you ever met outside of the posts here as I'd also guess you both have a lot in common and could probably learn from each other, so just leave it and go on to helping the next guy out like you did me. Thanks again.

Andy, I am not very good at tracking things down on a lot of websites, could you please put a link to the page that has the restrictors?

Thank you very much.
