Interesting you mention lawyer: I just looked up the dog owner's parcel #, got his name from that, & googled him, & most of the google entries indicate he's an attorney.

And the plot thickens ... imagine explaining things to an attorney!! Even when your paying $150 an hr they don't want to listen!!!

No matter, he should know better and has a lot to lose.

Look up your state.

It is the neighbors burden to bear. I have the right to do things on my property with out being hassled by dogs. I would talk to him first. Attorney or not if what he is doing restricts my freedom to do what I want on my own land this is something that simply isn't going to fly with me.

Well I will say this, I have killed some neighbors dogs through my lifetime, and do not highly recommend it, but sometimes you go to do what you gotta do. As for the goats, yes they are "dog snacks", had a lot of them killed, and torn to pieces through the years, in fact often they were killed for "fun" and pieces strewn everywhere. The last "dog killling" I was involved in was in 97, when I let my two cats out in the afternoon after I got home from work, on a beautiful september day. I hear a terrible scream, and saw one of my cats, a male named Jerry, being held in the jaws of two very large dogs, and being pulled apart. I grabbed a .38 revolver and run into the back yard, about 8 foot from the back porch. I kicked one of the dogs hard and they dropped the cat, then the one that I kicked, turned on me and snarled and showed his teeth to me. That was the last thing he ever did, as 4 rounds put him down instantly. I turned toward the other, but he turned tail and ran so I let him go. My friend Jerry died in my hands of a horrible death from suffication, as his ribcage was crushed, and he just could not get his breath. there was nothing I could do, and it was the most helpless feeling I have ever had in my life before or since. I actually cried when he died, and I am actually sad as I write this, and remember what a great friend he was to me for over 10 years. Our other cat was up a tree, and safe, but it took about 2 hours to get her down. I called the law, to make a record of the incident, they came and found the owner, a next door neighbor, (next door being about 1/3 mile) The owner came and got his dog, I felt sorry for him, as he loved the dog. He took it well, his dog (dogs) had murdered my cat, and I executed his dog. He was a good guy, and we got along Ok after that incident, but it does not always turn out that way. In Missouri, of course I was well within my rights to kill the dog. But all in all it was a sad day for all concerned. Take what you will, or think what you want from this story, but this is how things go down sometimes.

I had the same problem with a neighbor around here. I spoke with him about keeping his dogs off my property and his reply was "My dogs have a right to roam the forests." I just couldn't seem to get him to understand my property is not public forest. (He's from California) I followed the letter of the law and unfortunately, I eventually had to kill a dog, pit bull. Clean kill, no suffering. Very friendly dog and I love dogs, but it was harassing my livestock. I did more than the law requires, because I did not want to kill a dog that , IMO, was being neglected by a irresponsible owner. The sheriffs' deputy told me the best thing would be to shoot the owner, because he'll probably just go get another dog.

our state requires;

Dogs may be killed, when.
273.030. If any person shall discover any dog or dogs in the act of killing, wounding or chasing sheep in any portion of this state, or shall discover any dog or dogs under such circumstances as to satisfactorily show that such dog or dogs has or have been recently engaged in killing or chasing sheep or other domestic animal or animals, such person is authorized to immediately pursue and kill such dog or dogs; provided, however, that such dog or dogs shall not be killed in any enclosure belonging to or being in lawful possession of the owner of such dog or dogs.

There was a time when shooting dogs was acceptable. We raised sheep when I was a kid and packs of dogs would run the sheep to death. We would shoot the dogs to protect the sheep. Dogs are kept for a different reason these days. To protect home and family in a lot of cases. We have them. All our neighbors have them. This isn't the result of bad dog owners or bad dogs. It is just the way things are these days. Still there is a responsibility of large dog owners to control their dogs. There are too many people with large dogs these days that simply should not have them. The ride the shirt tails of responsible owners and make it bad for all of us that own large dogs.

That is more understandable that he is and will be a problem.
