I would just take a couple beers out to the fence when he is out and get acquainted that's the only way him or you knows what is on the others mind I am sure he has his reservations about you too.

That's reasonable, but I'm not sure what reservations he could have about me, a guy puttering along on a tractor on his own fenced property.

How do you get the wasps in the can for spraying?

The key is to hold their wings down while squeezing them in there. Oh, and to avoid the stinger.

Only one way to find out!

Agree. Anyone who owns big dogs, especially breeds that are known for being guard dogs, should be very sensitive to the concerns of neighbors. It did seem that he responded appropriately when he saw the dogs escape so I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Going directly to the Animal Control officer is considered a bit unneighborly where I come from.

Actually not difficult at all. You start off with wasp eggs (which are easy to insert in the can), then pressurize the can.
Give it a couple, three weeks and listen for the buzzing in the can. It's then ready for use...

I am not for a moment arguing that dog owners are not in the wrong in these cases. However, it seems far more civilized to discuss the problems with the neighbors mano a mano than to take a cowardly approach and just shoot the dumb beasts.

A man on a tractor is not at serious risk of being attacked by domestic dogs. In the case presented by the OP, the dogs are protecting their turf and warning the "pack" of an intruder as well as trying to scare off potential threats. What's so hard to understand about that?

If the neighbor is a jerk and doesn't respond, it would make more sense to shoot him as he is the real problem.

There's no one suggesting to just shoot the dogs, but to have a firearm ready for defensive purposes
Also, the dogs are not protecting "their turf"...not once they cross a property line.

And, a man on a slow moving CUT is at risk. The dogs might not be able to reach his neck, but could do a heck of a job on the tractor operator's legs and thighs (unless it's a cab tractor).

I'll agree with your last comment, but unlike the "Wild West", one cannot shoot people that "needed killin'."

If you've read my earlier posts in this thread, you know I don't want to see those dogs shot. This incident isn't the dogs' fault...they're just following instinct. But if you read those posts, you know I carry a pistol when I'm on my tractor. Should I ever be threatened or attacked, the first round will go over the critter's head (unless it has it's teeth in my leg). That sharp crack of a pistol round will very likely scare a critter off. The next rounds are to eliminate the threat or attack.

Dog bite laws are clear state to state. If you can not get through to the Lunk heads, print a copy of your states law and have them rear it. Than ask where they plan to live next.

As a human you have every right to be safe on your property, public area and the dog owner's property.

Don't do anything to mistreat the dog.

I don't care what a dog is doing on his side of the fence. Come at me and you get pepper spray, next you get dead.

The dog that came at me on my walk home from the bus stop was a St. Bernard, 150-175 lb. I had words with the owner before and let her know that I am armed.

A lot of dog owners feel we must hold ourselves at the ready to provide something for there dogs to chew on. A lot of dog owners when confronted with a "Dog Bite" victim needing medical treatment quickly turn into, "Not My Dog" just some old stray that came into the neighborhood, owners name, I don't know the owner. A lot of Insurance Companies have stopped providing insurance coverage if you own a certain type or breed of dog. So if you own a large aggressive dog and it bites someone more than likely homeowners insurance will not pay for medical treatment. So this leave the dog bite victim having to pay for medical treatment. A trip to the Emergency for a dog bite can result in a several hundred dollar bill. If the owner denies owner ship the victim then has to get a series of rabies shot, because no shot records available for the "Stray Dog". I have a very simple rule about dogs, he/she bites me, I shoot them.

That sums it up for me. I've got a loose Rotty in the house behind me that is one step from dog heaven.
