call a jd dealer for the parts.

I just did a 2240 and went aftermarket. there are a bajillion parts crosses that jd does.

jd take sthe sn and knows exactly what parts fit.

with mine I was down to counting splines and sending pics in to the aftermarket dealers. in the end.. they still sent me the wrong pilot and throwout bearings.

i believe jd does this on purpose to corner the market ontheir repair parts..

It's possible the aftermarket parts supplier doesn't know "come here from sic um" or never learned to read parts descriptions & footnotes. I don't remember a bajillion parts crosses for 2240 clutch replacement parts when I was a JD parts salesman.

there are 3 trans options for the 2240 that use the same casting. at least 1 w/ dual clutch and independent .

when i called in for parts.. there were 3 different PP, 2 each, different media discs.. and pto disc. different pilot bearings and tob's the discs .. you hat to count the splines on them and measure across them.

so yeah. tons of parts possibilities. call JD and give themt he sn and they know exactly what ya need. call 10 different aftermarket suppliers and you have to take 2 hours chasing things, to get 80% of the parts correct.

if jd didn't do that on purpose.. then they accidentally did it and masde it where they have a good corner ont he parts market if you want the correct parts.

When you're referring to all these different parts are you including the early & late model 2240's as one group of 2240's? I looked up the traction clutch(RE29881) & pilot brg(JD10107) for early model 2240 <SN 349,999) and they are the same for both dual stage & ind pto tractors. Pilot brg is also JD10107 for late model 2240 but it does list a different traction clutch plate from early model 2240.

well of course i'm refering to early and late. I'm refering to the entire model.. 2240

when you call bobs green tractro parts and tell him you have a 2240.. that's when the fun starts.

JD knows where all the sn stops and what not are. the aftermarket people don't, apparrently, have all that into.

The pp on the 1020 tractor: It has 3 fingers w/ springs and you can press them down with you're foot, the mechanic said that you should not be able to
press them down that easy.
I think it is a 2 stage clutch type, with a manual stick to shift from hi range to low range. I don't know anymore than this, and I don't think the neighbor would
know anything at all, he's dumber than I am .

I will pass this info. concerning the pp to him. I'm sure he would like to hear this, I don't know the price of the pp but I would bet they probably are
high dollar.

What vendor are these parts from? If 2255 indicates model then some research is in order. Is 1020 gasoline or diesel?

Kevin, I think jd110 explained it very well. Much better than I. But like him,,,, I have saw this type of failure.

I'm not sure what you meant when you said "If it was in gear with clutch disengaged, the transmission and the gear it is in is out of the picture"?

If the transmission is in any gear, the clutch is disengaged, and the vehicle is moved by pulling, coasting, pushing, whatever, the only thing that is out of the picture is the pressure plate and engine. Everything else, i.e., transmission gears, powertrain, etc., is turning. If the vehicle is moving at a ground speed much faster than the selected gear can normally propell the vehicle then the parts are turning at a much faster rate of speed than designed to endure.

On my rock truck the clutch disc completely exploded. The bellhousing was full of shrapnell and clutch disc pieces. It was ugly, and expensive. A mistake I never made again.

I'm not saying that's what happened to the OPs tractor, I'm just saying I've experienced this destruction.

Yep ' total brainfart . My clutch was slipping on that one .
