Sorry you were misinformed on the turf tires. They are the smoothest on tarmac and the choppiest on turf. This is because the whole tread surface is driven by a bump. Ags are a little ruf at low speed on tarmac due to the treads, but are the smoothest on turf. This is because only the tread bars touch initially and the carcass between them flexes down. That, and some penetration by the bars gives a little suspension inherent to the tread action. I noted the difference immediately when I switched from turf to AG on my BX1500.Our Ford 3000 fits your criteria for a machine with a smooth ride, which it has. The BX was purchased to do things that the Ford is too big for (the BX also replaced a JD 425 and Cub Lo Boy). I chose the turfs as my research on TBN led me to believe they would have the smoother ride and would be best in snow. The Rim Guard was intended to aid in traction when plowing snow, general stability and additional ballast for the loader. I guess I figured that the liquid in the tires would not hurt the ride. I'm not sure having no liquid at all would improve the ride enough to make it worth not having the extra ballast.
,,,,The BX actually rides much smoother than our B9200 which has big fat lo inflation turfs. Hard to figure. I think its 2 things; #] height - you get flung back and forth more as the tractor rocks, and #] the tractor is only a few hundred pounds more than the BX but has a lot more tread area for bumps to push against. :confused3:
