Guys enough already!
This is not going anywhere. lets talk about motorcycles or somthing.
Like how a rice burning scooter with a big engine is just that and not a real motorcycle like a Harley or Indian.
The rice rockets will be worth the price of the scrap plastic in them when the real classics are worth what your house is now.
That ought to get things cookin! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Indians = junk that is what they are out of business yet again. That could not survive in there own town for god sake!

Harley’s, well that are a bike I guess. Sure they are nice but I would not take one for free. Too slow, too annoying (loud), WAY overpriced and slow as all ****. Nevermind the annoying shaking when idling....

Classics sure, so is a toaster or coke bottle from 1920. Worth my house value, hmmm, I do not think so. You will need to re-mortgage your house to fix it daily…

A guy at work bought a custom bike for over 40K..what a joke. Nice bike but he is always fixing something.

chucko -- It seems you need to just price out what you want in both gas and diesel. Just pull the numbers online....

Here's what I know about the 5.4 from personal experience. My wife has an 04 150 and gets 13.4 on the highway and 8 pulling a 3 horse aluminum horse trailer with three horses. One of my good friends has a 250 and gets right at 13 on the highway and 9-11 in town. One of the girls that barrel races with my daughters her mom and dad have a 350 with 5.4 and he said the best he has ever got was 15 with a tailwind. Usually he's around 12. With a trailer he said he prays for 10. Those are the people that I know with the 5.4. Everyone else I know has a diesel.

I gotta 5.4 in an Expedition. A good engine, but if you have a '99 or a 2000, have your spark plugs torqued. No joking! Most 5.4's during that time didn't have correct torque on the spark plugs. There is a TSB on that, but not a recall. If you get out of warranty and they spit one out, you can't helicoil the head, you have to replace it. An average cost of $1600.00 at a Ford dealership. Now, having given fair warning about that, in 50k miles of driving city and highway, the 5.4 has averaged right at 12 mpg combined. This is on an Eddie Bauer 4X4 '00 Expedition.

We also have an '01 Suburban 4X4 with the 5.3 in it. Same conditions, it gets about 12.3 mpg. I think the Suburban weighs more, but I'm not positive. I've never raced them, so I can't tell you which is faster either. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I've heard rumblings that Chevy is going to put the Duramax in the 2500 Suburbans soon. Anybody know about that? I think the tax write off for vehicles over 6000 lbs GVW ends this next year as well. Anybody know about that either? I guess I should have started a new thread on that?? Anyway, it's really important to me. If the 1 year write off for over 6000 GVW vehicles ends next year, I'll have to buy one then. I'm hoping that it goes through '06 because I really don't want to buy another vehicle this next year. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm pretty sure, unless it was extended, that the write-off ends Dec 31st. That's why we bought two new vehicles this fall that qualified. I'd rather give the money to ford than the government.

I've had 3 7.3's and never got above 15mpg.Towing I got around 11mpg.Still have a '97 that runs great.Better than the '00 & '03.25 psd's I had and it's the only one that has broken 14mpg.The last time I checked it was about 80k miles ago.My 04 6.0 crew cab drw(4.10) gets about 16-19mpg and about 12-13mpg towing. This happened after a reflash when the tranny got rebuilt. Before it was only getting at best 16mpg.

2001 F150 supercrew 3.55 gears - average 14 mpg mixed driving (no trailer). When towing, I swear you can watch the gas gauge head towards E. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

cowboydoc,
I have the '03 5.4L and consistently get 14.9-15.5, that is unloaded and non-towing(and I have a heavy foot). I have no idea what gear is in it though /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. I will look into it tomorrow if you want me to.

I'll bet it's not as bad as my '89 Chev. dually with the 454 engine and 4.10 rear end. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I had to drive very carefully to get 10 mpg without the trailer until I added the Gear Vendors overdrive and that upped it to 12.65 even driving faster. But with the trailer . . . . last trip to Alaska averaged 5.5 mpg. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif That truck was a real pleasure to drive, but if you romped down on the acclerator, it was just like flushing a commode. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
