New Flags

Since the change today, I was getting NEW flags on a lot of messages. I logged back in and that fixed most of that problem.

Now, when I use the INDEX to leave a forum topic, the NEW message no longer dissapears as it did. Using Main Index seems to make the NEW tag go away ok from the Forum list.

That is about as confusing as I could make it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Maybe if I think about it a little more, I can make it even more confusing.

The way it works now, is you can't find out which messages you have read in a forum until you log out and log back in! /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

The NEW flags stay on each message topic after you have read them although the quantity no longer shows on the forum. While you are logged in and a new message shows up in that forum, ALL of the message topics you have already read still say NEW. Bug??

Well close one door and another opens... I am working on this one now, but I have actually cornered the problem. See, the reason this is happening is because I changed the tracking method of read posts, so you won't have the random logout problem once I update all the proper files. However, since I haven't updated all the proper files yet, the new tracking and 'anti-logout' changes won't work. I should be able to get this finished today. Until then, the new flags will not work properly. Note that this is only when viewing in flat mode, not threaded (that will still work properly).

Always interesting since I test software for a living. Had a developer ask why we wanted to test more than just the area that he had fixed the bug in? He doesn't ask that anymore. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, I am viewing in flat mode and I seem to have zillions of NEW flags. The only way to tell which have been read is looking at the dates of the posts. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
