Setting up sidewalk for concrete pour. I kind of go a__ backwards. I form it up, then worry about slope and level.

I have done the add tubing to the downspout and go under the sidewalk.
Never seems to really work all that great.
Going to have grate and an open area. I think this will work out better.

You can see steel angle along the long side of the grates. I will drill these and add threaded rod or long bolts to sink into the concrete when it is poured. The concrete extends under them and a little into the opening.
This weekend I hope to add the rebar and drill out the treated lumber that I use as expansion joints.

These are the bolts I added to sink the angle into the concrete. I added large washers so the bolts won't pull out.

Rebar is in.

I like the grate idea. Looking forward to see how it looks after you pour, and then how it works out for you. Might be something that I want to copy off of you!!!!!

Thanks,
Eddie

will the water coming out of the downspout and running through the grated area wash out the dirt under the concrete?

Seems like it would unless you extend it a bit or put stone under there.

Looks great though. Lotta work going on there.

I will do a second pour or add bricks under the downspout so erosion won't be a problem. I thought about stone but with the amount of water that can come out of that spout, it might wash out. The concrete goes almost 8-10" thick next to the grate closest to the building and on the corner and side away from the building 10-12", so washing out under the concrete should not be an issue.

The finishers will be there at 9 when the concrete shows up. $575 labor for the 16 x 16 x 5 fire pit pad and 32 x 3 x 6 sidewalk with a broom finish. Concrete is now $96 per yard for 3500 psi delivered. Looking at 6.5 yards on the safe side.
All set to go, suppose to be 71-75 without rain for days.
With any left over concrete I formed up a location for firewood.

I swear the tubing is level on all sides. I hope it is the angle it was shot causing the look. It is on a slope. The more I look at it the more it looks off. The tube was sank 2' and I mixed up 160# so they would be set before the other pour.

Concrete poured. 6.5 yards
Wood pile pad.

Fire Pit. I will add stone around the ring on top.
If you blow the picture up I put 2 eye rings in the concrete on the sides. This is to tie
down lawn furniture with the high winds I get in the open field.

Sidewalk
176058681_photobucket_15932_.jpg

I had ordered 6 yards, they did not believe me.
Extra pad to use up the extra .5 yard the finishers thought they really needed.
It gave me another 8 x 10 x 4" pad so it was a good deal.
Trashcan Location? Maybe a wash pit for ATV or Motorcycles?
I could not stand not using it and dump it in the drive.
Still needed to be edged and brushed in this picture.

Finished the fire pit today.
All that's left to do is to spray the ID with some black spray paint and let it all dry.
Should have a bon fire next weekend when the Cadet from VMI is back in town.

Had to do it in two pours since you cannot pour the sides and base at the same time. During the last rain, you could see how it quickly it would eat out under the sidewalk if I did not put down stone or concrete.
