I have went, in the past, as far as throwing a rope over the top and pulling a ladder up to lay on the roof. Tie off the rope and ladder and work from ladder and move it over as I go. Slow but safer. I have some 6/12 and 7/12 sections, but the porch is 4/12. All shingled.
