New Holland vs Kuhn Disc mower

i have never sheared one on mine but then i try and only cut fields that i have walked and no there is nothing in there

Sounds like we think along the same lines. I honestly believe there must be farmers that go at it "full tilt" and let the chips (and broken parts) fall where they may. My $ are too hard to come by to operate like that :) Ken Sweet

The Fort disc mowers have a pod design that pulls out with 4 bolts. They have a easy and quick replaceable pinion gear shaft that has a groove cut in it to allow it to shear off in the event of a drastic object hit. I don't know if you can see the groove in the picture or not. Ken Sweet

looks like the setup on my kuhn

Why would you ever shear one unless you hit a fence post or well casing? Ken Sweet

exacly that is what i mean. some never have to replace anything. i have some guys who have 5 year old machines and still have the original belt on them. it just all depends on how you take care of stuff, and your fields

I have a Gentleman that works for me and his Fort mower is 15 yrs old and still has the original belts and he has replaced all blades and blade bolts 1 time. He does about 300 big rolls per year and a few square bales for the calves..

Hopefully next year. A nice big sunflower type rake would be great.
After 55+ years with the DEO 25 , it's about time!
My dad farmed this place since the late 60's after getting it from my grandpa. Then I aquired it 2 about years ago. The only new piece of equipment I ever remember dad buying was a 6' grader blade, a post hole auger and a slightly used 1973 2000 Ford gas tractor.
Basicly I'm starting over!

How did you narrow it down to a New Holland or a Kuhn? I am looking at Krone, John Deere, Frontier, Vermeer. Any ideas out of those, or what does everyone favor? I like Deere, because 15 miles away and good parts system, but that is all I know.
