Front siding looks great. Question, how wide is your porch? Any posts needed to support roof overhang? Jon

Porch is 8’ deep by 66’ long. The 8’ overhang is built into the trusses so technically, no supports are needed. That said, I don’t like the look without posts, and the wife wants some low railing to keep animals off the porch. I’ll have 6 6x6 posts across the front covered with white vinyl. I have the posts and covers just need to get metal wrapped around the beam. I’m planning to rent a metal brake this coming weekend to get that done.

My overhang on the house is 8ft. However the truss design called for posts to support the outer edge. This works because the posts also support the front deck along the house which is over the walk out basement doors. Jon

Not much to update. Drywall was finished last Friday. Happy with the job they did, but I think they rushed the final sanding. As we cleaned the walls, we found a number of places that needed a little more sanding and a few imperfections that required mud. Didn’t want to wait for them to come back, so just took care of it myself and moved on.

I had mentioned renting a metal brake, but that did materialize. Instead we spent the weekend cleaning and prepping for primer. I got the ceiling and walls primed in the kitchen/living room with the cathedral ceiling. The smooth ceiling looks good, but what a job it is to primer/paint. Took all evening today just to trim it out with flat white ceiling paint. Wife worked on trimming out other rooms.

Baseball started for my 7 year old yesterday, and I’m one of the coaches, so that will certainly cut into our house work time. Next week is spring break for my kids and wife, so that should help with progress. I may take a big part of the week off also. Hope to be able to start flooring towards the end of the week.

Garage floor will be poured a week from this Friday, so I have a little to do to prep for that.

I’ll get progress pics of painting up soon.

You are amazing. Congrats on all your progress.

I also applaud you for coaching baseball for the kids. It’s fantastic. Kids need adults helping at that age. And baseball teaches kids great life lessons.

Appreciate the kind words.

We enjoy baseball season and look forward to it each year. Last years season was cancelled due to COVID, so it’s nice to get back to it. Our first practice went really well, second practice may get rained out this evening.

I used to help coach my son’s teams. Lots of fun.

Fun it is. My 10 year old daughter decided not to play softball this year. I enjoyed watching her play, but won’t make her if it isn’t what she wants to do.

Practice was rained out, so got home and got the cathedral ceiling painted flat white. Also got a couple more rooms primed.

I plan to get more priming done tomorrow evening while my wife trims out the rooms already friend with paint. Hoping to make good progress painting over the weekend.

I bought 2 18” roller heads, and boy do they make a difference in time painting.

Pictures to come once the painting starts.

Bet those 18 inch rollers full of paint take a toll on your arms. Especially heavy overhead on ceilings. Jon

They are certainly a bit heavier than the 9”, but honestly not as bad as I thought. I have used both the last few days, and i don’t notice that much of a difference. I can move quicker with the bigger roller, spending less time rolling paint, so maybe that makes up for the toll of the extra weight.

That said, the design of the roller heads do not allow you to get as close to the corners as the 9” rollers do. I have been using a 4” roller in the corners first, and that has worked well.

It will he interesting to see how it all turns out, we have definitely never done this much painting at once, and it is definitely not one of my favorite activities.
