dump trailer search is finally over with! I spent hours researching and visiting dealers to look at trailers because this is a big investment for me. I narrowed it down to PJ, Load Trail, or Sure trac. I settled on this little PJ because the dealer is local and has good reputation and the trailer is perfect for my needs. It's a 6.5x 10 d2 series custom ordered with 14k tandem and 12" on center crossmembers. Very pleased so far. This is considered their "medium" duty trailer but it is heck for stout. Main use will be firewood delivery for which I'll need sideboards ASAP.

Nice! How much wood you think you can haul on it. Kinda curious, thinking about one for myself. LUTT

Well it got dark last nite before I could finish loading it but it looks like it will hold two face cord, or "ricks" here in southern indiana, thrown in without side boards. I'm hoping with the boards to carry four.

Just curious why u chose that size instead of 12 or 14

12 or 14 was what I originally started looking for but they're just to long for delivering wood in some of the tight driveways around here. Plus I have a 20' deck over flatbed for hauling long stuff.

Nice trailer ... I really like the truck you are towing it with. What year? Motor? I am looking for a 3/4 ton in that body style. Hows it tow with a big load?

That will probly do it then. I have used a 12 foot dump with 3 foot sides and it liked a little hauling a full cord, just by pitching it in there. I figure if a guy stacked it would be no problem. I completely understand about wanting a ten foot trailer for getting into driveways! LUTT

It's a 86 f350 with a 460 and C6 automatic. She's not quite as fast as the new trucks but she's paid for. I need to bolster up the rear springs and finish fixing up the body. She's been a good old truck.

Yeah I figure I'll need at least 24" side boards with maybe an extra 6" board on the front. We'll see. When I get them built I'll be sure and post some pics.

Well two face cord fills her to the brim so I'm thinking 30" sides boards at least if I want to carry four.

Nice looking dump trailer!

I have a question about the wheels....

I noticed they do not have center caps. What's the general opinion about whether center caps provide protection or are they just for looks?

I ask because our horse trailer had 3 plastic ones (4th one was lost before we bought it) and when I painted the wheels, I pulled the center caps off, since I painted the wheels without removing them from the trailer and I was wondering if it was worth replacing them.

Thanks!

In my experience the cheesy hubcaps trap as much mud as they keep out, especially on the gravel roads in my area.

I really liked the PJ trailer that I looked at , but ended up buying a Big Tex 12LX since the only PJ dealer were I had looked at their trailers is over almost 200 miles north of Me . Is was easy to stop and look at the trailers up there , since I load from a factory just down the street , just could not justify wasting a day driving up and back since the Big Tex dealer is right here in the Valley .

I Second the notion though about Just Having a Dump trailer !!! After the first load is hauled and Dumped , it is like " How the Heck did I ever do this stuff by hand before " !!!

Nice Trailer and Good Addition .

My livestock trailer came with nice chrome ones. Only problem they are retained from the back side of the wheel, so if you wanted to service the bearing you needed to pull the whole tire off just to take the cap off and then take the bearing cap off.

I like to pull the bearing caps and make shure the bearings are full of grease and or use bearing buddies with the grease zerk. Which you would not be able to get to with the center cap style that came on my trailer.

TLDR, just for looks and have the potential to cause more problems than no centers.

The PJ dealer I bought from also sells Big Tex. Nice looking trailers. He had a 14lx there that I considered but it was just to big for my needs. I honestly like their dump box design a little better than the PJ. They have more vertical reinforcement from what I've seen.
