Re: New project 1975 Ford 5000
Not much to update, spent the day trying to figure out what was wrong/up with gauges
Tach worked, needle is broken/rusted off so for right now, I used a hot glue gun to glue on a paper clip (yes ghetto, until I figure everything else out and spring for a new dash) The metal was in no shape for solder etc...
I pulled the hood and stuff off to have access to wiring thanks to FEL, and pulled the harness, light switch and key out as a unit
because of paint, electrical tape and factory non stick wire covering I couldn't tell exactly what was going on so I stripped it all off and traced wires
biggest issues were the ground on the dash was unplugged and the switch wiring was fubar :confused2:
I ordered some wire loom tape and will wrap wire later when dash is replaced
of course the charge light was on, and after checking generator by shorting plugs and using voltmeter(it was fine nice steady reading that moved up with throttle)
after rewiring dash, it comes on with key in run position, goes off above like 800 rpms (checked with volt meter) under 800 rpms it drops to 12.8 or so and light comes on
SO far the 6 book set I downloaded has been spot on
So now gas gage works, water temp moves and the warning lights work...I will save up for some Bling...(new dash/gauge panel)
ghetto needle
and stripped down and marked wire loom
the aux lighting wiring now works also!!!!
until next adventure...which will be exhaust and rubber fuel hoses
