Well it was time to mount the siren that came w the jeep (and switch)

most of my machines have a battery shut off switch, but surprisingly I hadn’t installed one on the Jeep yet. I found this on Amazon and wanted to pass it along, voltmeter with switch. Pretty handy, hooked to the negative terminal with a wire running to your hot lead. No parasitic draw when it’s off. Pretty handy little switch and much better than a simple blade switch. Price was around $30 as there was a 10% off coupon. I’m not sure if there is still a coupon. I will be steadily converting over to this style

Is this a CJ5? I have an M38A-1 from 1955 sitting in my shop. Interesting quick hitch.

BTW I’ve followed this thread forever! I built a 50x100 red iron shop and slowly filling it with equipment and projects. Latest addition was a CNC plasma table and a new welding cart. I’ll try to take some pics as it’s been a work in progress.

Definitely do that!^

Ya, early 60’s cj5. My local town/ back 40 sxs. Works hard and is a perfect vehicle for me. The 3pt hitch is handy for sure,

Ok, couple more additions. Finished the install today.

So, I added a mortise attachment that goes on my 16” planer/jointer along with a oscillating sander.

First the crate(s) and the beast of a rolling jack/pallet carrier thing I have. I’m not sure what it was used for but it is stout.

Sander assembled via beam hoist

Ok, assembly and attachment of the mortise attachment.

Lever to right allows free movement in x-y planes to drill or cut slot

Then off to wood lathe to open up some pvc connections to attach to dust collection.

Ready to sand.

Belt can be angled 0-90 and oscillates

table to left allows drum sanding and front table elevates as needed

A horizontal mortiser... Now I get it. I was thinking of the typical hollow chisel style and wondering how that would attach to a joiner/planer...

I do a decent amount of doweling the process of using the jig was always a bit annoying. This will speed things up and make it more enjoyable.

For hollow chisel, I use my drill press.

Likely now, I will just mortise with this and clean up corners with a chisel

So I had to use the old school cnc to drill 40-50 holes in some 3/16 stock x3 (sickle bar blade holders.)

The thermal overload began tripping. This mill motor has always been a bit louder than its twin in the shop. I figured I was starting to lose the motor.

I wasn’t sure if the noise was in the head/spindle or motor so off came the motor to isolate the sound.

Motor seemed a bit loud ( clamped in mill vise.) spindle was smooth and no movement.

However, comparing both motors, I got the same resistances across windings. Maybe heat/ bad insulation? This motor did run 30-50 deg warmer than its twin.

Back to overload tripping with no load on motor. On a whim I checked the voltages as motor was running and was getting some screwy #s.

115 l1-l2
185 l1-l3
210 l2-l3

Hrm. Shut down and pulled the plug and checked the outlet.

Dead leg!

The problem was obvious,

Motor is nice and quiet now, no tripping. Wire must have been like that since I moved in 6 years ago
