I see shibaru N843 rebuild kits all over. Not sure if it’s the same as the j843. Sounds like the N designation is just naturally aspirated. Many kits list the part numbers. You could get the part numbers and cross reference.
Not looking for a whole kit necessarily, I’m hoping to get by with just new rings or pistons and rings (if lands are broken as explained to me) plus a head gasket and oil pan gaskets. Will only order whats needed when it’s needed.

How do I cross reference as mentioned… and how do I confirm if the n843 parts will fit or not.

Once again this is all a learning experience to me no experience in engine parts sourcing…

I’ve messaged shibaura direct also for compatibility between n843/j843

Head gasket leak to crankcase vs cooling wouldn't be as obvious when cranking as when running. Taking pistons out to replace rings doesn't have to mean replacing them both. Skirt and or bore wear would make the difference vs say needing just rings. (stuck, worn, broken ..?)

IMO these issues must result from poor maintenance as much as a long sit, maybe most of it outdoors. An oil change might mislead as to past service/abuse. Just removing the oil pan could tell us a lot, esp if it's full of sludge.

btw, If we have to go deeper into this I still wouldn't buy parts until we know what/which are needed. Baby steps, but in the right order.

Not just the skirt wear, the big thing on Diesel pistons is ring land clearance. You may need a ridge reamer and definitely a bore gauge.

No still no joy
No extra time or extra funds currently so this is on hold. I did exchange the extra compression test kit I bought for a leak down test kit from HF this weekend is the best update I have.

Sorry everyone for my delays and lack of updates! To be honest I got a little depressed after everything was so unproductive..

Momma said there’s be days like this..

That’s why I LOVE doing what I do..
I take a non-running piece of machinery, go thru the fuel system.. turn the key and it roars to life.. I smile EVERY TIME..

I just read this entire thread. My head hurts a little bit. I feel like giving some silly advice like “have you tried checking to make sure you have enough air in the tires?” You get all sorts of advice, some good, some bad. You don’t have compression, period. You verified it with two different gauges. Until you get compression diesels won’t run.

Somebody says it doesn’t make sense on how a fairly low hour engine has three cylinders go bad? The engine has most likely been dusted. That’s where the air filter fails, an intake hose etc. breaks and over a period of time ingested dust and wore it out early. Obviously other things are possible but I’d crack that baby open and see what you got.

If your lucky a low buck hone job and new rings will get you going. You might not even be able to see the problem visually, you might have to measure things but it might also be obvious.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement!!! I still think I’m gonna get it too just gotta wait for time and funds plus it’s just too hot for long mechanic work..

As far as measuring, this is going to do the trick correct? If so I am Hoping to score a deal on it from the jungle store on prime days but they raised the price yesterday up from $113 lol they think we don’t notice things like that…

Roars to life was exactly what I was hoping for after the fuel system self refurbishment

even once, let alone every time… but as you all know no joy

When it cools down and time permits I’ll pull the oil pan and also pull the head shortly afterwards to get you all some more insight. Patience please

Thank you again for the time and help everyone!!!
