New Tractor Purchase JD 2305

My understanding is that the mechanical lift uses the 3-point hitch lifting mechanism and the independent lift is hydraulic. Ther is another thread related to this subject. It seems most like or would like the mechanical lift over the independent.

Strange - the dealers I've spoken to have all recommended it (and they have to order the tractor so it's not like they are trying to move what they have on the lot). It's not like it's a high-buck item either, just a couple hundred bucks. Hmmm...

I would think it would be bothersome to have the 3-pt moving up and down it you are mowing with the ballast box on or if you get a rear bagger system of some sort (JD, Trac Vac).

I'll believe I'll be ordering a 2305 soon, now I'll have to think about this...

From what it sounds like, the dealer found that the independent lift was being oversold - in other words, people thought it worked better than it actually did in practice. As for the ballast box point, my dealer conceded that you probably do not want to have the ballast box on when mowing otherwise you may bottom out especially when climbing a steeper incline. Nevertheless, I pulled the trigger tonight and expect the machine soon, equipped with the mechanical lift.
