Small, independent community banks keep getting started and having success because of the way big banks treat their customers.
prefer my credit union to any bank. I do all my business with them.Small, independent community banks keep getting started and having success because of the way big banks treat their customers.
This goes on in many arenas in life. The real estate industry for example is full of these kind of shenanigans. It is easy to say it is or was, all about science when the vast majority of people lack the scientific background to understand what is being said or distort the facts to imply falsities.
This is very true. With the proliferation and easy access to information now and days college doesn't make sense anymore. Unless they're going to be a doctor, engineer or scientist it's a bad investment. I would even argue that going for a law degree can be obtained on one's own without attending a university.I feel like theres a lot of kids going to college who really shouldn’t be there. They went because their parents made them, or they felt social pressure that they had to go or they were a ”loser”.
Problem with that is, most people won’t hire you without a legit degree. We’ve been conditioned to believe that degrees, especially ivy league degrees, are a guarantee of intelligence. This is very true. Just for the record, I was not advocating for that. My opinion and long held belief is they can earn it on their own with a computer and an internet connection.I would never recommend that a parent tell their children - Whatever you do, don't pursue any education or training after High School. Others may differ.
Yes and I've worked with some of those IBM employees. Trust me they're still going off of their name from a couple decades ago. That is changing.

There are other ways to test for and determine this.I don't think college separates the smart from the dumb. I think it separates the people who are willing to go the extra mile.

I am an estate fiduciary and most of the people I am hiring are degreed adults with many years of experience. I can tell you first hand that I have interviewed many people over the years that had decades of experience in their field and didn't know anything. There are MANY in the work force that have done nothing with themselves. They coasted on the coat tails of their degree, experience, resume and the reputation of the company they work for hoping that the next boss they interview with will not be prudent enough to ask the right questions. There certainly are but I think it depends on the career field. In some cases, you either know it or you don't. As the job market gets more and more difficult to fill the technical roles you will either see that work offshored (We offshore a large percentage of our technical roles) or companies hiring entry level non degree students and putting them through a boot camp or internship.
I would much rather see them bring in kids from the US and put them through internships than to have it off-shored. That off-shore solution doesn't help our economy or young workers
Technology would be the perfect field to do this in.
I would agree with that for most things. But for some professions, it would be the unusual person who was able to force himself to learn as much and in the depth required.Just for the record, I was not advocating for that. My opinion and long held belief is they can earn it on their own with a computer and an internet connection.
